JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Recommended Posts

Five weeks to the DVD release, I think it can make 5b in that time, that takes it to 27.3b, plus a bit more for the rest of this week, say 27.6b. That's also when a bunch of competition hits so it'll lose screens anyway. Under those circumstances, I'm not sure it can beat Spirited Away.

Are you saying it cannot gross even 2B after DVD release.

It might I don't know. Very slowly if it does. There was also this:

The news report is from cinematoday jp , which says Frozen is scheduled to stop screening in July. The report also says that it is hard for Frozen to surpass Titanic by 7/16.

I don't know how true it is. It makes sense from Disney's POV, theatre owners might not be so happy.

Only a fool would stop screening Frozen completely when its making about $3 to 5 million a week. I assume Frozen will make at least $3 to $5 million a week immediately following the DVD/Blu-ray release on July 16.

If Disney chooses to be a fool ... they are welcome so we can laugh at them :D

We like to see records broken eventhough we don't get a penny. And when they don't get broken at least I will have fun laughing at the decisions Disney made to stop it.

Even in USA, I wanted to buy a damn 3D Blu-ray for Frozen but they chose to release 2D only. So I bought the 2D and downloaded the 3D for free. Screw Disney, I wont be one of those poor souls who fall into the trap of the studios like Disney that make you double dip to buy the same thing in different formats. I spent almost $100 for watching Frozen in theaters with family and buying the 2D Collectors edition Blu-ray.

When you buy a 3D Blu-ray in future, you would get a 2D Blu-ray for free anyway. But then I would already have a 2D Blu-ray, what the hell would I do with another one. And why would Disney expect anyone to spend $30+ to buy a 3D blu-ray when they already spent that money on the 2D Collectors Edition they released and willingly chose to restrict 3D blu-ray release. Amazon even had the Frozen 3D Blu-ray release listed officially but then removed it and the news surfaced that Disney is not willing to release 3D Blu-ray yet as it would like to force people to use their VOD for 3D. If I was to use VOD, I might as well download the damn thing for free. I will only pay for movie theaters (including premium formats and IMAX), and physical Blu-ray discs 2D or 3D. NEVER EVER buy a VOD movie, it simply isn't the same quality as a 50GB BD Disc with DTS HD MA.

So,about numbers in yen...Do you think Frozen could pass SA (by the way I watched it in a theater back then with my sister,it was really great, first and last time I watched a Japanese movie in a theater) or it's unlikely? 30B seems quite far from 22B..I'm a bit pessimistic about it.Thankfully in dollars it will be piece a cake.

I don't think so. The release of DVD is killing Frozen's legs...

It probably won't outgross SA in yen, but it could come close. It can probably get close to 27b by the time of the video release. It all depends on how much business will remain after that. (Between the video and the competition, it's going to face fairly large declines, in comparison.) It could get another 1-2b, but even then will probably come up short.

In order to guarantee passing SA, it would probably need to be north of 28b when the video hits.

If it's actually going to get yanked from theaters, then, no, it won't get there. It needs about 1.6b a week between now and the video release to do it.

Those sale numbers seems to justify the early release date set by disney.

Yes,enjoy the hype before it fades. Why should they wait a few weeks to gain an additional 5m when they can gain an additional 150m with a DVD Blu-Ray release?:P Edited by Fullbuster

I was hoping maybe the studio underestimated it, and it gets $6m or at least 600m yen. I guess the studio estimate was spot on this time. But it's still in the higher range of the projections here.
