Yeah, presales for DP are quite good.

Actually, now that I look at Toho Cinema's website, it appears that Deadpool is going to be the new #1 movie in Japan.

Looks like it's going to be a very lively June for the Japanese box office.

6% drop... pretty good considering that yesterday was a huge Sports Monday and tomorrow is Ladies Day + First Day of Month Discount

Forget about breaking the Billion Mark, apparently Japan made 2 Billion Dollars for Zootopia already. hahahaha

Just putting this here before they update again.

Ended up with a 13.2% drop. And I don't think Ladies Day applies tomorrow. usually it's 1,100 yen for ladies but First Day of the Month Discount just makes it 1,100 yen for everyone.

If anyone was wondering.

Deadpool is beating the crap out of Zootopia at the moment.

Does anyone know if this is normal for the first day of a hit movie?

PS: I probably would have a bigger problem with this if Zootopia wasn't already guaranteed to break 1 billion in less than two weeks.

Hit movies usually don't open mid-week, during the first of the month discount, so I have no idea what to compare it to.

Results at 19:00,

デイリー上映25分前販売数合計ランキング(19時中間集計):20160601

Ticket prices discounted around 19% for everyone today, whereas last week was only for ladies.

Assuming ladies make up half the admissions, 19%/2 = 9.5%. Tickets were discounted 9.5% last Wednesday.

So ticket prices decreased by 9.5%, but admissions also increased by 9.2%... probably a flat or slight decrease in revenue compared to last week

As well as Deadpool is performing today, it does not seem like it is directly affecting Zootopia too much (if at all).

Another thing to take away from today is that the evening admissions have not been as strong as last week.
At 14:00, Zootopia was at 116.6% week-over-week, by 19:00, it has dropped to 109.2%.

Perhaps we have passed the peak of Zootopia in Japan already, though the drop is still very small and could increase back up next week again.

Well, you could look up opening saturdays.

Zootopia sold around 90,000 sampled tickets on its first day. Deadpool is probably going to come in under that for this Wednesday. I dont' know how it will do on Saturday, though.

Yes, not all old animes are still running and maintaining their success.

Sure, it's not like Doraemon, Dragon Ball, Crayon Shin-Chan, One Piece or fucking Naruto haven't had successful movies in Japan lately. They've all faded away!
