JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Recommended Posts

And we have a thread milestone.

This thread was created May 13 2012 and had exactly 137 pages by March 13 2014. Frozen opened March 14 and the first post on page 138 was that day.

So, about 1300 days to get the first 137 pages, after Frozen opened just 58 days until the next 137. :D

Ive been tracking page views. This thread has been averaging 4000 per day since start of GW compared to Chinas thread of 1000per day.if frozen can keep a solid run thru summer it'll cause more thread activity than the entire chinese BO this year.

4000 views a day? Amazing.

If you deduct my views I wonder who the other 2000 a day are from. ;)

Kinezo 12800 up 20% from sat.Other chains seem stronger than toho. Perhaps tohox has returned to 66. That would make it 7m for the weekend. Subers will probably report 6.5m then as the estimates have been consistently 5%+ lower.

From Deadline.com:

"In another part of the world, Disney‘s Frozen was No. 1 for the 9th consecutive weekend in Japan, passing Avatar to become the 5th biggest western release ever in the market. Its global cume is now $1,190.7M after adding $7.1M in three markets this weekend, its 28th in release. The international portion is $790.3M with Japan still under the spell. After scoring its best-yet frame there last weekend, the film dropped just 36% and now has a total of $164.4M."

7,1M$ is done for 99,99% in Japan, so only -6% from two week ago (and 37M$ in 8-days GW). I think a great staying power.

Numbers don't add up: 790.3 - 768.9 = 21.4 (Mon-to-Sun OS)

Out of the 21.4, 164.4 - 143.2 = 21.2 (Mon-to-Sun Japan)

164.4 - 156.9 = 7.5 (Wed-to-Sun in Japan)

Sat-to-Sun in Japan: 7.1

so Wed-to-Fri in Japan is 0.4?

Weekend Estimates [05/10-11]

01 (01) ¥694 million ($6.8 million), -39%, Frozen (Disney) Week 9
02 (02) ¥218 million ($2.1 million), -59%, Thermae Romae II (Toho) Week 3
03 (04) ¥166 million ($1.6 million), -55%, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Sony) Week 3
04 (03) ¥153 million ($1.5 million), -65%, Detective Conan: The Sniper from Another Dimension (Toho) Week 4
05 (--) ¥103 million ($1.0 million), 0, Wood Job! (Toho) DEBUT
06 (05) ¥99 million ($980,000), -62%, Partners the Movie 3 (Toei) Week 3

08 (08) ¥69 million ($680,000), -53%, My Little Nightmare (Toho) Week 2
09 (07) ¥64 million ($630,000), -61%, Enchanted Kingdom 3D (Toho-Towa) Week 2
10 (09) ¥14 million ($130,000), -69%, Crows: Explode (Toho) Week 5

Pretty standard post-Golden Week weekend full of 50/60% drops. And remember, these estimates are based on last weekend's estimates since the weekend frame (05/03-04) of Golden Week hasn't been completely released yet.

A few notes:

>Frozen earns the biggest 9th weekend ever if this estimate is accurate. I'll post the list a little later.

>The Amazing Spider-Man 2 actually has a respectable hold.

>Partners 3 seemingly dropping 60%+ is interesting considering its older audience. It's not primarily seniors, but it should be skewing old enough to have avoided such a rough drop.

>Crows: Explode definitely isn't in 10th place. Estimates are limited for... limited openers, so one of them will knock it out when the weekend rankings are released tomorrow.

The last estimate hasn't been revised yet at 143.2m. Now this week is short at least another million. It should be just over 17b yen and 167m dollars. Down 6% for the weekend from 2weeks ago is amazing. Disregard GW drop its not pertinent. Edited by mfantin65

Subers Bom. He didnt mention weekend number but he did mention IM3. About time. Same low total too.Frozen held first place in Japan for the ninth-straight weekend. To date, its earned $164.4 million there, which is more than twice as much as it has earned anywhere else outside the U.S.On a worldwide basis, has grossed over $1.19 billion. It's now only $25 million away from moving up to fifth place all-time ahead of Iron Man 3.

I don't get what's wrong with Frozen's business after 2:30 pm. The overall total/14:30 ratio used to be well above 2x, while this Sunday it was like 1.65 or so. Probably it lost one hell of a number of evening seats. Anyways, I better avoid the early toho numbers during the weekend, they always end up being so damn disappointing. With the early 35k, I thought 65k+ was almost assured.

That said, it's still a 7M weekend, right in line with my expectations and hopes. Next weekend it has to stay around there.

7M+ > crazy recovery from post-GW, blondie Keanu being a very happy snowman

6.5/7M > momentum kept, 244.1M still in reach

6/6.5M > solid, but makes 250+ very unlikely

sub-6M > loss of momentum already begun, SA sighs with relief

I'm guessing that the numbers reported are Disney's estimates. While it's not a great comparison, they've tended to underestimate the domestic weekend grosses pretty severely for the past several weeks (going back to the first weekend of April, in fact.)
