GRAVITY should be an expected hit in Europe after the unanimous praise it received at the Venice Film Festival.

General audience don't give a damn about Venice Mostra. It's good marketing (trailers) and stellar WOM that makes it the big event of the moment here. It performs like a typical blockbuster that dominates every contenders when everyone was kinda expecting an arthouse kind of run and moderate success due to being a minimalist movie.(Children Of Men was an absolute flop here)

Well, GA may not give a damn, but it only helps the movie...more, right?

Yeah for whoring quotes on the movie poster.

(If critics ravings at Mostra were what made Gravity as big as it is, so we must expect Stephen Frears Philomena and Miyasaki's Wind Rises pulling Gravity's numbers as well, right...)

GRAVITY can sell itself. The praises which I think the movie deserves would only help its popularity at the box office.

it doesn't hurt to be on critic's side. However you are right, that movies are mostly critic proof.
