Total Presales for the upcoming days as of Wednesday 00:00

Elemental - 54,344 (-4% LW)

MI7 - 60,988 (-49% LW)

Barbie - 24,655

Detective Conan - 31,288

Smugglers (T-0) - 242,744

Ransomed (T-7) - 26,047

The Moon (T-7) - 41,897

Big jump for Smugglers on its last day, it's now tracking as follows

1.062x Black Panther 2 (195k Opening Wed)

0.899x GOTG(147k Opening Wed)

0.799x MI7 (184k Opening Wed)

None of those opened on culture day or in the school holidays so I think there's a good chance Smugglers opens significantly bigger, maybe 250k+.

As for Elemental, it's fallen behind last week which is a sign that the weekend might see a big drop since I imagine a significant number of those PS are gonna be for culture day tomorrow. Fingers crossed it's not so bad though.

Total Presales for the upcoming days as of Thursday 00:00

Elemental - 56,833 (-17% LW)

Smugglers - 166,020

MI7 - 49,464 (-64% LW)

Barbie - 20,340 (-55% LW)

Detective Conan - 32,774

Ransomed (T-6) - 33,668

Showings for Tuesday July 24

MI7: 5,408 showings (-1% YD, -35% LW), 75,375 admissions (-11% YD, -36% LW), 13.94 PSA (-67% YD, -10% LW)

Elemental: 3,554 showings (-0% YD, -8% LW), 68,529 admissions (-0% YD, +6% LW), 19.3 PSA (+0% YD, +15% LW)

Detective Conan: 2,513 showings (-2% YD), 30,503 admissions (-16% YD), 12.1 PSA (-14% YD)

Barbie: 1,912 showings (-1% YD), 26,011 admissions (-1% YD), 13.6 PSA (+1% YD)

Elemental might pip yesterday with actuals. Its PSA is easily the strongest of all the holdovers so hopefully it doesn't lose too many showings tomorrow to the Smugglers menace. Comparing Barbie with Conan it is clearly holding better and has found a floor but it might be too little too late for it to make a comeback given we're about to see a movie open to 1.5m+ admissions in the next few days.

Showings for Wednesday July 25

Smugglers: 9,141 showings, 318,000 admissions, 34.8 PSA

MI7: 2,348 showings (-57% YD), 75,226 admissions (-0% YD), 32.0 PSA (+130% YD)

Elemental: 2,325 showings (-35% YD), 73,200 admissions (+7% YD), 31.5 PSA (+63% YD)

Detective Conan: 1,400 showings (-44% YD), 27,188 admissions (-11% YD), 19.4 PSA (+60% YD)

Barbie: 861 showings (-55% YD), 25,670 admissions (-1% YD), 29.8 PSA (+119% YD)

Barbie and MI7 were treated extremely unfairly today IMO. As I said yesterday there is no way Conan deserved to keep as many screens and showings as it did and I think the PSA today proves it. I expect Smugglers to shed screens to the holdovers for the next few days.

How could ELEMENTAL have lower admissions but higher daily gross than MI7? Shouldn't be the other way around as one is a family film?

Discounts for Culture Day and also MI7 entering it's 3rd week.  Elemental had a higher PSA than any other film in the top 5 - no need to discount it as much.

I have no idea how theatrical allocation works in SK but Conan debuted on Thur - maybe there was some screen or showing minimum for the first week.  🤷‍♀️

CGV starts - Wednesday 00:20

Smugglers - 67,000 (+52% MI7 OD CGV start)

Elemental - 14,000 (+27% LW, +27% YD)

MI7 - 16,000 (-6% LW, +45% YD)

Detective Conan - 6,725 (+7% YD)

Barbie - 8,492 (+63% YD)

Admission starts - Wednesday 01:00

Smugglers - 139,394 (+34% MI7 OD start, 1836 screens)

Elemental - 30,864 (+33% LW, +27% YD, 746 screens)

MI7 - 37,218 (+5% LW, +59% YD, 747 screens)

Detective Conan - 12,848 (+1% YD, 603 screens)

Barbie - 16,059 (+43% YD, 477 screens)

Screen loss from last week

MI7 - 1,597 -> 747 (-53% LW, -43% YD)

Elemental - 892 -> 746 (-16% LW, -17% YD)

Barbie - 729 -> 477 (-35% LW, -24% YD)

Conan (Thu) 985 -> 603 (-39% from OD, -19% YD)

Good lord, MI7 got OBLITERATED by Smugglers. It will start ahead of Elemental today but there's a good chance the walkups won't be enough to keep it at #2. Elemental losing just 16% of screens is a great sign for the long-term, it seems it will be allowed to die "naturally" instead of in one quick weekend. I expect something like ~30% drops every weekend until the end of its run. Barbie had great presales but unfortunately its performance wasn't good enough to warrant retaining screens. I have no clue how Conan got let off so easily after performing the poorest out of the four holdovers.

CGV starts - Thursday 00:20

Smugglers - 41,000 (-39% YD)

Elemental - 11,000 (n/c LW, -21% YD)

MI7 - 7,234 (-55% LW, -55% YD)

Detective Conan - 13,000 (+93% YD)

Barbie - 4,399 (-48% YD)

Admission starts - Thursday 01:00

Smugglers - 48,614 (-65% YD, 1,733 screens - doesn't seem right, the CGV ratio is almost 100% lol)

Elemental - 26,326 (+17% LW, -15% YD, 768 screens)

MI7 - 16,272 (-52% LW, -56% YD, 709 screens)

Detective Conan - 22,098 (+72% YD, 623 screens)

Barbie - 8,317 (-54% LW, -48% YD, 453 screens)

MI7 and Barbie seem done, they have shedded way too many screens to survive. Elemental's presales continue to hold well though the walkups have taken a bit of a hit in recent days. The weekend presales aren't looking too amazing either but we'll see if it can win back some screens in the coming days to soften the incoming drop. Conan continues to surprise, I don't have the foggiest clue why the presales almost doubled on Thursday from Culture Day Wednesday but there you go. Maybe it did deserve to keep the screens *shrugs*. Smugglers's true start should be 80k+ based on the CGV.

Depend on where your film is collecting more, possibly Elemental is ahead in bigger cities with higher ticket

While Flash has been the biggest disaster of the year, MI7 is the biggest disappointment for sure. While I did not believe in maverick bump, its performance both domestic and os have been just mediocre. Part 1 curse is definitely a factor here.

Yeah that's the main thing for me. Can't blame the date for this one. It came onto a relatively empty marketplace, had a weak OW, weak legs and it's already limping.

I think there isn't enough draw to the movie apart from Tom Cruise stunts (which has a ceiling in terms of potential reach)

Anyway, thanks a lot guys especially TalismanRing for the dutiful posting of numbers, much appreciated. Keep up the good work!

Is there a way to gauge audience reception of films in Korea besides box office? Like Audience Score on a KR website or something (like Douban for China)
