JWD is a international mega hit that cinema across the globe can’t afford to lose. Dominion, Thor and Black Panther 2 are literally the only contenders for billion movies this year until Avatar 2. And Doctor Strange just showed that even massively hyped Marvel movies are not surefire billion hits. CGV for tomorrow shall start around 20-25k, that would mean 150-175K day 2 mostly. 2.2M 5-days. Right now JWD stands as such Joker - 88% Justice League - 87% Shang Chi - 87% JWD - 87% The Batman - 86% BvS - 69% I generally only keep track of SH movies, so amongst 42 SH movies since 2016 or so, JWD stands at 27-28th number. Of the 42 movies 22 have a CGV rating of 90 or more. It's Naver ratings on the other hand is quite bad. Out of 42 SH movies since 2016 it would be in the 38th place with only Morbius, Eternals, Venom 2 and Fant4stic having worse scores. It's gross is the 2nd highest amongst all DC movies (with only TDKR higher). It is higher than all Fox and non-Spidey Sony SH movies. Amongst MCU movies it would be right in the middle of the pack at around 15th from 28 movies. Joker's CGV was decent to good but its Naver ratings were great at 8.97/8.66. That would be in the top 10 for SH movies (since 2016 at least). JWD on the other hand has terrible Naver ratings despite a decent CGV rating. imbruglia Posted June 1, 2022 Share Posted June 1, 2022 (edited) I think the film was harmless. but to casual audience.. it may be too long, (2H 20m) not much action/spectacular. and those nostalgia story line which is for old and nerd, doesn't connect with casual audience. even previous film was 4 years ago, I assume most people don't remember it well. so.. anyway, I think Naver rating has small number of reviews to take them seriously as of right now. Also, people here don't have that nostalgia for old US culture (80's, 90's.) that's why star wars is not popular.. or ghost bursters and many others. all that 80~9's cameo, revival, nostalgia thing has no value here. JW:FK on the other hand did have some competition but not this much. There was a movie called Believer playing at the time which did about 230k admissions on JW:FK's opening day (compared to 446k for Roundup).
