We had the weekend of Madagascar 3 and Prometheus opening which seemed like the end that mini-slump, but then we got the week after that which was one of the worst June weekends ever.

With two nonsense movies being released that weekend, what else was to be expected?

He just needs a new chance on sci-fi/adventure spectacle.(let's forget PlanetoftheApes). He could have been the lead in...Oblivion, for example.

He also needs to stear clear of overrated one-trick pony directors such as MNS, PJ, Burton.MNS twist schtick overstayed its welcome long time ago. PJ doesn`t worth shit outside of Tolkien (where he`s ridiculously overrated to begin with) and Burton is just terrible at remaking, reimaging, etc. Edited by fishnets

You hate PJ and LOTR. We get it.

he is but the movie`s meh.Wahlberg has an actual staying power. He survided shitty rapper career and mega-shitfests such as POTA remake, The Crappening and TLB. That is saying something. He knows how to bounce back from missteps and come out on the top. Successful actor, producer (Entourage, Boardwalk Empire), shame on AMPAS to have snubbed him for Boogy Nights and The Fighter.

He should have got an Oscar nod for The Fighter, he was as good as Bale IMO

Eh, he's had better performances (Boogie Nights is his best). He was good in it, but merely "good" shouldn't warrant a nomination.

TLB was garbage. KK was unnecessary exercise in self-indulgence that overspent the budget but didn`t thrill. Post-0LOTR PJ is crap. fact. Now he`s back to prequelling LOTR cause non-LOTR shit didn`t turn all that well. Talk about dusting off a franchise when going gets tough. And yes, it`s a career-saving move since he was very loud about not wanting to direct TH because he didn`t want to "repeat himself." Lmao! Don`t want to repat yourself? Than stop extracting emotional response with slo-mo and close-ups and stop overstuff your movies with SFX and stretch them beyond reasonable running time.
