A Marvel Fanboy

Monsters University OS (Settling for fine 480M OS total)

MOS is average, WWZ is great since it's an original zombie film, if WWZ 2 won't have a big increase than that wouldn't be great either.

MOS is relatively great considering it's a reboot and had major competition from WWZ. It's overseas gross is higher than those of IRON MAN, IRON MAN ll, THOR, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, BATMAN BEGINS, all X-MEN and FANTASTIC FOUR films.

lolololol it's you who brought up the budget thing.

dont be niave. of course there will be budget talks when it comes to box office, but merchandise, not really.

Superman is a much bigger comicbook icon than all the other characters. In other words, he is the most known superhero in the world.

MOS has a (the word much should be put here for some cases) bigger budget than all the movies you listed. And MOS came out (up to more than 10) years later than the movies you mentioned.

Plus, when you brought WWZ, a different genre movie that has diffused international releases and barely grossed 340m, as an excuse for MoS couldnt do higher, you were just spinning. It is like to say IM3 could have done 1B OS (oh wait, IM3 did already do 800m os, not too shabby but a B-list comic character can only do that much ? ) if not for the major competiton from SUPER BLOCKBUSTER (?) STID or MEGA (?) BLOCKBUSTER FF6.

Reboot ? last year a superhero reboot called TASM just did 490m os. did MOS reach that number ? Hmm. Isnt Superman supposedly a bigger name than Spidey ? Isnt MOS supposedly a superior movie than vastly hated rebooted-too-soon and no-one-asked-for TASM ?

In a fanboy's world, the movies he love always do INCREDIBLE numbers. no surprise.

I agree with some of your points but some things I must point out

Just Superman is the most well known superhero doesn't mean he is the most POPULAR. Many people find Superman to be a boring character. Many don't like him because they find him too strong,  too invulnerable.  Even the original Superman from 1978 is not the most attended superhero film (Batman, Spider-MAn, Spider-Man 2, The Dark Knight, and The Avengers all beat it) and even the first Iron Man sold more tickets than every Superman films except the 1st.

And are you forgetting about Avengers effect? Being a direct follow up to The Avengers certainly allowed IM3 to make as much as it did

also TASM had at least one or two free weeks to make money, while MOS went up against MU and WWZ in some countries even teh same opening week

Check your spelling first before calling me naive. lol

Well known doesn't always mean popular. And like what I said, it's a reboot. And what bigger name are you talking about? The first spidey film made way more than SUPERMAN RETURNS. Spidey is more popular from the beginning.

Superman (78) did way more than Ironman inflation adjusted.

And are you forgetting about Avengers effect? Being a direct follow up to The Avengers certainly allowed IM3 to make as much as it did. Again it just shows how pachetic DC movies are.  IM3 did more OS than MOS did WW. Even three years ago IM2 sold more tickets than MOS.

also TASM had at least one or two free weeks to make money, while MOS went up against MU and WWZ in some countries even teh same opening week. Really ? Now even zombies and animated monsters are problems for invincible Superman ? Some countries ? or just a few of the over hundred markets. TASM had no competition ? Did TASM say any word when it faced Ted, Mad 3 and TDKR in some countries ?

TA2 will do more OS than SB WW in 2015. of course DC fanboys will bring up TA2 as a sequel to be the EXCUSE while SB is not.

Spiderman (2002) did more than SR because SR bombed.

No, Spiderman is not more popular than Superman. Spiderman movies do better at the box office because they are the better movies.

of course it will. I am not even predicting BS to even compete with Avengers 2 at all. It only had a chance if they brought back Bale and made it some kind of loose sequel to TDK trilogy.

And Superman 78 sold 57m tickets  and Iron Man 44m. Not exactly a gigantic difference

lol 200 M is a bomb. Dafuq. A figure not even 3D movies like THOR and CA: TFA were able to reach.

Spiderman is more popular especially with kids.

And better movies? So SPIDER-MAN lll was better than SR or MOS? The reason why it still did well was because of the character's popularity. Even the reboot did well because the character is a popular one.

Blind ?

SR had a PB of 260M, nearly doubling that of Thor or CA. Thor/CA got sequels. SR got reboot. You are awful at logics.

SR budget is 209m

Box Office Mojo has it at $270 M.

I rememberred how back then it was already pointed out how huge the production budget is.

I beleive WB's main problem is first and foremost their budget.  Same could be said for Green Lantern or even for MOS even if this last one made a profit.

Those couple of years they had CBM ambitious projects with a $200+ M budget...the only one was BB with a $150M, hence why it was still a box office hit with its overall $370+M BO worldwide.

They should contain their budget and go back to those types of figures for a first movie while increasing it the $200M for sequels of successful movies.

well, BOM is wrong. Those additional 60m are unsuccessful projects to resurrect Superman

Not to get into a who is wrong and who is right, but many different outlets, both in french and english reported those $260+m budget numbers.  BOM has the overall towering at $310M.

I found this on Wiki (now that it is the bible) which could explain your numbers :

Budget

Originally budgeted at $184.5 million, Warner Bros. placed the production cost at $204 million, after factoring in tax rebates and incentives. Taking into account the development costs since the early 1990s, total expenditure is estimated to be around $263 million, with up to a further $100 million spent on worldwide marketing
