senmitsuji
it probably won't increase that much in Asian markets. I'm not seeing the hype for it on Chinese websites and gravity is opening at the same time as it so it might get heavily overshadowed. A Marvel Fanboy
Catching Fire should have some massive increases in some countries but will it increase in every country? That is the question It should increase in every market, in different levels.
efialtes76
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE: Opened in Brazil to a $6.2M Bow. THG opened with $3.1M.
Ajde
Exhibitor Relations @ERCboxoffice THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins its tour of global BO domination, lighting up $6.3M in Brazil--more than double the original. Really solid, good number for CF imo kinda hoped it'd do a tad more, but given the shitty exchange rate I'm pleased with its opening there. A Marvel Fanboy
What would the opening have been with the same exchange rate as THG? http://forums.boxoffice.com/index.php?/topic/3046-brazil-box-office-this-week-the-hunger-games-catching-fire-a-big-jump-expected/?p=1111432 May give you some clue. peludo
What would the opening have been with the same exchange rate as THG? Brazilian Real has lost about a 20% of its value relative to March 2012, so the OW would have been about 7.4 million $
iceroll
What kind of legs/total is expected in Brazil then?
peludo
What kind of legs/total is expected in Brazil then? Well, I do not know too much about Brazilian market behavior, but THG had a x3.25 multiplier. If we asume the same multiplier for CF, the total would be of 20 million. Or maybe a bit less since I think it will have been more frontloaded than the first installment, so legs should be a bit lower. If I had to bet, I think it should land somewhere between 17 and 20 million.

In LC closer to 4x THG, Sat saw a drop off compared to THG Sat increase, for two days CF will be about 1.6 x THG in $lc and 1.5 x in Admits, Thor2 which is easy #2 was only hit with 25% drop for Fri/Sat Was also a holiday on Friday in Bra ^^^^^ That breakdown from Brazil makes me think for sure more front-loaded than THG. CF dropped on Sat vs. an increase for THG, even if Friday was a holiday. Some stats for their top grossing Hollywood movies this year in order: Iron Man 3's first weekend was around 25% of total Despicable Me 2 around 16% Fast & Furious 6 around 26% Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters around 18% The Wolverine around 26% Edited November 17, 2013 by Shantal
Wally
What kind of legs/total is expected in Brazil then? Brazil always shows good legs. You can expect a 3x multiplier at the very least. Yes, friday was frontloaded, but it was because of the holiday. Besides, word of mouth is amazing in here, so you can expect CF to reach 13-15M on the next weekend. Goffe
3x multiplier is pretty low, most films (except animated films) have between 4.1-5.5x here in Brazil.

Yes, but I said 3x multiplier because I was talking about the worst case scenario. If it has New Moon legs it will have a 4.3x multiplier, which would bring it's total to 26,7M. Then, how is possible that THG, a non sequel, had just a x3.25 multiplier (3.1 OW / 10.1 Total)? Maybe many movies have very good legs as you are saying, but the precedent for CF is not that good.
Wormow
Australia: Gino Munari, Village Cinemas General Manager, commented “This is the movie event of the year. Our pre-sales for midnight shows and opening week – especially in Vmax and Gold Class – are at fever pitch across the Village circuit with double the amount of seats sold at the same time Vs the first Hunger Games instalment. We’re all looking forward to the hysteria from Thursday”…
