Hernan Gonzalez
That's not exactly what is happening. Most theaters in China are medium ones with screens of 4~10. So if there are two blockbusters opening the same time, they likely will be the only movies left on screens. But if a theater has more screens than that, say 15, it certainly can keep more movies besides the two hot ones. Jackie Chan Beijing (WukeSong) has 17 screens, for example, so it was able to play 5 movies last weekend. Actually most 6~10 theaters were able to keep 3~5 movies. China needs to start building mega-multiplexes (around 20 screens). Currrently there is only one 19-hall theater in the whole country. Only a handful theaters have screens at or over 15. Problem is the price of real estate is so damn high that basically no one could afford mega-multiplexes. Even Wanda have to keep their theaters at 8~12 screens. Another way to solve (or can it ?) the frontloading and low per show attendance problem is providing different movies to different theater chains. But unless there are more than enough theaters, this wont work out. Maybe this could happen in five years, but not now. Now I understand! Thanks firedeep! That's why Maleficent is doing better on weekdays than during the weekend, they just give T4 all the screen for the weekend and on Monday they give it back some screen to other movies, am I right? Yes but still very limited screen for Maleficient during the weekdays for example one show per day in the early morning or few shows per day @ VIP screen which only got 30 seats per screen etc Edited July 2, 2014 by A K A

Any rough estimations? The Chinese should like the movie, it is a spectacle with some good stunts and songs, the story is non-existent but Aamir almost carries the movie throughout. efialtes76
In China, animation, mythos Disney stuff rarely play well. Japan could be the big market for Maleficent Biggest market for Maleficent will be Mexico. Edited July 2, 2014 by efialtes76

Any rough predictions? If Chinese accept the content, then what could be the figures? What is the maximum potential for a foreign movie releasing at 2000 screens in China?
