charlie Jatinder
I think what China is doing with its governance is good thing. It's working well economically and socially. Unlike other Asian countries especially like India, Pakistan, etc. They are still a shithole place to live. 1

charlie Jatinder
Parasite has grossed $5mn in Taiwan. Dangal: $188mn against $5.5mn: 34x Secret Superstar: $116mn against $0.9mn: 128x (outlier) Coco: $184mn against $4.8mn: 38x Zootopia: $237mn against $8.7mn: 27x Green Book: $72mn against $1.9mn: 37x Bigger films, which have established fanbases. dudalb
In somewhat related news Disney is taking a huge 200 million plus..virus related hit because of what is happening to it's resorts and theme parks in Asia. The ones in China are closed, and attendance to down drastically as those in Asia outside of China.

I'm wondering if this will end up being their worst year in a long time.

Would not be surprised if it's effect end up causing a world wide recession. Nasty thing for Disney about this hit is there is no compensating factors,,they can't hope for ancillary markets to help lessen the loss. It's pure red ink. And I suspect the overhead on just maintenance for the properties in Asia is considerable. Edited February 13, 2020 by dudalb
cdsacken
Disney will be fine. The other smaller companies are in serious shit. That's like worrying about apple a company locked to be dominant for years thanks to fake 5g. Edited February 14, 2020 by cdsacken

lorddemaxus
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/15/business/china-coronavirus-lockdown.html Quote Residential lockdowns of varying strictness — from checkpoints at building entrances to hard limits on going outdoors — now cover at least 760 million people in China, or more than half the country’s population, according to a New York Times analysis of government announcements in provinces and major cities. Many of these people live far from the city of Wuhan, where the virus was first reported and which the government sealed off last month. 1
