Also, the running rate look a lot more normal now for China BO.

Sophia Jane
Avatar 2 failure in China is the black swan event of "the highly anticipated blockbuster movie was failed at box office due to the epidemic" In the case of the Avatar series in the mainland, I immediately thought of a similar situation - the situation of the Spider-Man series in the Philippines The Philippines is a small market, so you may not pay much attention to it, but the box office of No Way Home in the Philippines is very similar to that of Avatar 2 in the mainland, you can refer to Next, let me talk about the situation of the Spider-Man series in the Philippines The Philippines has always been deeply influenced by American culture, so the status of Spider-Man in the hearts of Filipinos is similar to that of Monkey King in the hearts of Chinese people. It is a real national-level IP. How popular this IP is in the Philippines, you can take a look at its history. Record: In 2002, Tobey Maguire's "Spider-Man 1" was released in the Philippines. After the release, it exploded at the box office of 195 million pesos, directly breaking the box office record of 180 million pesos set by "Titanic" in 1998. In 2004, Tobey's "Spider-Man 2" was released in the Philippines, and once again exploded at 221 million pesos, breaking his own box office record. The Spider-Man series broke the Philippine box office record for the second time in a row In 2007, Tobey's "Spider-Man 3" was released in the Philippines, and the box office raked in 420 million pesos, which was almost twice the box office record of "Spider-Man 2" for three years, and the record was maintained until 2012. Even James Cameron's "Avatar 1" failed to break the record of "Spiderman 3" in the Philippines in 2009. Afterwards, although Garfield's "The Amazing Spider-Man 1" did not win the annual championship in the Philippines, it was second only to the Avengers One which broke the Philippine historical record that year, and its box office was also the top five in history at that time. In 2014, Garfield's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" exploded at 447 million pesos and won the Philippine import crown again, winning the fourth highest box office in Philippine history at that time These records are enough to show how popular the Spider-Man series is in the Philippines, right? Tobey's version broke the Philippine box office record three times in a row. This record is exactly the same as James Cameron record breaking "True Lies"-"Titanic"-"Avatar" in the mainland. , it can be said that the Spider-Man series is the James Cameron of the Philippines in terms of box office dominance So since the Spider-Man series is so popular in the Philippines, you can guess how much the box office erans of "Spider-Man: No Way Home", this ultimate masterpiece that embodies Spider-Man's 20 years nostaligia is in the Philippines? The current ceiling of the Philippine market is the record of 1.7 billion pesos held by "Avengers 4". According to the previous record, Toby's version broke once, and Garfield's version is also firmly in the top five in Philippine history. From the perspective of this level of nostalgia, , 2 billion pesos won't be a dream for NWH, right? The answer is revealed. The box office of "Spider-Man: No Way home" in the Philippines is 271 million pesos. How bad is this result? Let's put it this way, even "JJK 0" bought 252 million pesos in the Philippines. The Philippine national hero Spider-Man for 20 years were almost surpassed by the box office of a Japanese animation. This is the Spider-Man!An IP whick broke the record three times in the Philippines! Why is it so low? It is precisely because when NWH was released in the Philippines, it hit the worst period of the epidemic in the Philippines, and 70% of the movie theaters closed down. Although this is a small market that has little impact on the total box office of NWH, I can be sure that the mood of Filipino movie fans at that time was similar to that of Chinese netizens watching Avatar 2 ‘s box office. This kind of situation is very normal, it is a black swan event, but Avatar lost a big market this time, and Spiderman lost a small market However, we can say that Spider-Man is not popular in the Philippines because of the failure of NWH in the Philippines due to the epidemic? Definitely not I can guarantee that the box office of the next Spiderman will gross at least 1 billion pesos in the Philippines Because the popularity and influence itself have not declined, Maybe NWH not have a good reputation among movie fans, but it doesn't matter ,the influence of the movie is there Avatar in the mainland can completely refer to Spiderman in the Philippines Edited December 20, 2022 by Bruce

Avatar was re-released because it was part of big movie slate to boast theaters when there were no new movies released at that time. Titanic was re-released for 3D remake. People were ready to go out and watch movie but the Local Movie Festival became a problem and pushed No Way Home release to wrong slot, if the Festival had not happened, NWH would had made lotsa money as it would have released in December itself - when people were craving to go... Near the end of January, When Theaters re-opened for NWH - Another problem arose and Government imposed a Rule that only "Fully Vaccinated Peeps" were allowed. They were not even allowed to ride the public transport if they did not have Vaccine-Pass. It didn't matter if they had COVID or not, they were forced to get Vaccinated to go to theatres. This was main reason for lower numbers- nothing else. COVID is similar but the Situation in Chinese Theater is nothing like that. Government is not forcing right now or Cinemas aren't demanding ANY CERTIFICATES. Edited December 20, 2022 by Shanks

Fearing not to go and not allowed to go are completely different things. NWH made 270m with just 26 Theatres Active in 9 Cities - (that's less than 30% theatre opened and with 50% Seating booking - Level 3 Alert was Active) Still, Fans went with 'Vaccine Pass' - Even Kids needed the Vaccine Pass and the process for Kid's Vaccine had not even started. They simply couldn't go watch it. It Choice vs. No Choice.
