We didn't really see change in trend for GvK post HBO Max release. SOUL though at small level trended well as well.

Though one must wonder if that $60M it did could have been $100M without Disney+ or not.

How much do you think piracy impacts. Re-releases do really well in China, ffs Avatar did $50M (right) just this year. So could it be that piracy don't impact much.

Avatar re-release performance was seen as a disappointment in some ways. Many believe it could've try ¥1,000M if the release plan was not so hasty. Soul got similar opinions.

It's hard to establish a certain standard to judge the impact of piracy. But the general consciousness is cost-effectiveness. The consumption capacity of local people is still high, but they're not spending much money on movies like usual, why? Because audience don't think it's worth. Movies in recent two years seldom let audience see the magic of cinema or theme park stuffs while entertainment is becoming more various. Young people would rather spend hundred yuan on board and card games than buy a ticket and set in a house for two hours by just 20~30 yuan. Is the movie worth seeing in theaters, even if we can see it online for free. For movies like GvK, the answer is yes. For many, many others, audience don't even want to play it on streaming or download the piracies. It make the whole market be more unpredictable. Six months ago, many in industry believe Chinese Doctors is a $300M-plus level title. Currently, few people believe the number would be over $200M, with some pessimistic opinions think under ¥1,000M.

BW has been rated by 417 users on Douban film site since oversea debuts. The number is expected to grow dramatically as it land on Disney+.

How can the rating number will grow dramatically when Disney+ isn't even available in China right now? Also, where are that 427 ratings come from? Is it from people who viewed it through piracy or what?

Trending on Weibo at number 8, HD with Chinese subtitles up on various sites and wangpan.

search Weibo and you see screenshots from people’s TV - pirated copy.

@Gavin Feng @charlie Jatinder

it is Mulan all over again. It’s a curse, two (of the) most view trailers on Weibo for Hollywood films in 2019; both killed by piracy.

Not really important to note. Neither of them released on Disney+ before their Chinese release.

Just now, charlie Jatinder said:

You could have named Venom, the one to breakout despite delayed release.

But as @lorddemaxus said they were released before Blu Ray release.

BW case will be more like Once Upon a Deadpool which iirc had $8m od and $20m weekend closing around $35m.

BW will be a bit better than that tho.

we shall see

Now wonder if that's a great sign people not going for piracy or its awful sign showing lower buzz for MCU movie.

Doesn't help that some people are saying that 16gb is too large for the 4k version? And some are still find subs to download along with the movie.. lol.

Starts with 7.2/10 on Douban film site.

Better than Hulk, Thor 1, First Avengers, Black Panther, Captain Marvel.

12k votes now.

How many did Mulan have at this point of time?
not really apples-to-apples because I also note Mulan does have a lot of spam votes by haters and fans of competitors of Liu Yifei; plus I also know a lot of HK boycotters went to douban to purposely rate it low at that time..
