So the weekend number came out to be close to 180m after all. I knew something was wrong with that Saturday gross. One of the major chains delayed report.

Really impressive for FF6.

 

Two months delay, the HD pirated copies are everywhere, yet still doing so solid, second best Hollywood performance yearly behind unbeatable IM3. Had it no piracy, even $100M+ wouldnot be a problem.

Midnight 4.2M 2nd best of 2013 behind IM3's 13M, same as TA

OD 57.8M 7th biggest of all time, slightly ahead of TA (57M), 4th biggest for a Hollywood movie, biggest opening Friday.

OW (3 days) 181M 17th biggest all time, 10th biggest for Hollywood movies, biggest 3-days opening all time, biggest Universal opening, 2nd best July opening

 

Overally FF6 is performing on par with last year's TA, which did over 560M (90M) in total. FF6 faces much tougher competitions than TA. So $90M most likely is unreachable. Still, something like 500M yuan $80M is on track for FF6, as long as it holds well against Pacific Rim.

Only 100M from DOM, what can you expect from a market that is 80%+ smaller than DOM ?

But films don't have the same relative strength in each market, for example:

 

Battleship:

DOM: 65M

China: 49M

 

Life Of Pi:

Dom: 125M

China: 90M

 

I don't know how much staying power PR will have, but it's a good start.
