Estimated midnight number for Titanic 3D:

IMAX about 1.53M yuan with 74 shows and 3D about 8.5M yuan; total 11M yuan or 1.7M+ $, very close to TF3's 12M yuan.

Titanic 3D will show the box office potential of 3D exclusively releases. Its released on 3D screens / IMAX 3D screens only, taking most of China's 5,100 3D screens.

Still don't get why it's so popular in China. If it's only marketing (sorry i don't buy the other arguments, it's not like Titanic wasn't a huge success in pretty much every market on its original release), why didn't Fox market it more in other markets? They even get much more out of other markets than China, which takes the majority of the receipts for itself.Not that i'm complaining mind you.

Ok, here it is, because the China film market expanded 10 times bigger in revenue the last 10 years.

. To illustrate how much the theatrical world has changed since the 1997/1998 release, the 2012 Russia opening weekend ($4.9M) is 97% of the lifetime theatrical result of what the original did in Russia in 1998 ($5.1M).

Sure, China's market expanded but it's not just doing really well for a re-release or compared to its original run, it's destroying most new releases as well, which it is not doing in other markets.

Probably it is just like this in expanding markets.

We dont know the how the real new blockbusters like TASM, TDKR and TH will perform yet. I think they will be in the same range as Titanic 3D.
