So I guess it is finally at $300 million now

Might as well have a Chinese Studio make TF5 without Bay ofcourse.

Transformers is clearly way more popular in China than in the USA.

Why would they do that...

If a chinese studio makes the movie, and it won't be in Englisch almost no other country would check it out and why would paramount give such a money maker to china.

Exactly..

And most importantly, have you seen the Monkey King CGI?  I wouldn't trust Chinese studios with R2D2 let alone the transformers.

300m are reached, crazy! Not deserved IMO but it's huge, first movie reaching $300m in China, and in a country outside the US.

About making TF5 in China because TF is more popular there than in the US is quite ridiculous...American movies popular abroad should be outsourced when more popular abroad? Well no, Transformers movies are the product of the US culture, and it is an essentiel part of its success. If Hollywood can be very successful in China I'm happy for them.

As Clint Eastwood said in Unforgiven, "Deserved got's nothing to do with it"

Terrific performance from TRF4!

The main question of the past few weeks has been why Box Office Mojo isn't using EntGroup's numbers for TF4 although it has been using EntGroup's numbers for all other films.

(I know, for most movies the grosses aren't exactly the same cuz EntGroup updates the charts with more accurate grosses after one week but Box Office Mojo doesn't. However, for Transformers 4, the grosses were very different even before EntGroup updated them.)

The most impressive impressive thing about TF4's run was not the opening, but the legs.

Three weeks performance isn't much of a leg for TF4. It is still front loaded box office as expected. Think of what it made in the first week of its run versus its total box office.

The 20 week box office of Frozen in Japan can be referred to having the legs. Even the USA performance of Frozen was impressive for being in top 5 consecutively for 11 weeks adn top 10 consecutively for 16 weeks. It was over a decade ago a movie did this in USA.

Different type of movies, different type of legs. Family films like Frozen have been known for having better leg than the other genres. Bringing up Frozen to compare it's leggy run with a summer Blockbuster, the most frontloaded genre, was ridiculous.

TF4 opened big but dropped freakin fast everywhere, getting to 3x in the market that also produced it's biggest opening was impressive.

Nobody said it had a great leggy run or anything, just that the leg in China was so much better than we'd expected.

True, make the Chinese do all the work and USA should totally benefit from it  ;)

Like how Apple Iphones are made in China with a manufacturing cost of $200, only to sell it for $800 in USA and probably higher prices in other parts of the world including China. Just so that Apple can have a profit of $40 billion per year.

The amazing success in China would only mean that TF5 will have more of China than TF4 did. So with that perspective, Paramount might as well let a Chinese studio do the whole movie and take royalties. They can sell rights to Chinese Studio to make Transformers movies as often as they like with 30% of profits going to Paramount. China will likely make the sequels at a faster rate than Hollywood although at a lower budget but more suitable to the Chinese audience.

Hollywood can still release its major versions of the movie for worldwide audience but their releases will take a lot of time as usual. The next Transformers movie may not be for another 4 to 5 years.

But isnt a big reason people see TF films because of the CGI which the 200M budget can pay for. It's not like Godzilla in Japan, a man in a robot suit is not going to make the same money as the Bayformers style.

That strategy doesn't make sense to me. Chinese people wouldn't just watch their own version of Transformers with sub par production and crappy CGI. And Hollywood wouldn't want to cut down the gross of their next TF movie by compromising the demand in China.
