No Tuesday estimates? I'm rooting for The Expendables 3 to earn $80,000,000 or more in U.S. dollars at the Box Office in China by the time its China theatrical run ends, whenever that turns out to be. I hope that EX3 will still be playing in movie theaters in China for at least a couple more weeks. As we know, EX3 has earned far more money at the Box Office in China than it has at the Box Office in the U.S. EX3 has been a flop at the Box Office in the U.S. ever since it premiered in theaters there and EX3 has done very well at the Box Office in China in its first 15 days there.

And their numbers are actuals or still estimates? 7.21 mln Monday Storm, 6.74 mln Expendables, 6.6 mln Apes e.t.c?

Entroup/CBO (they are the same thing) only and always shows what have grabbed from the ticketing system of China Film Special Funds, or referred to the Special Funds (中国电影专项资金办公室 or 专资办 in Chinese). Unlike some Weibo users, Entroup/CBO do not do estimates based on reported numbers. Usually CBO.cn shows the daily numbers one hour earlier (could be as early as 12am) than mother site Entgoup.cn. And both site would update the daily numbers serveral times per day with more theaters reporting.

For example, If 2000 theaters have reported X RMB for movie A in the Special Funds ticketing system by 13pm, then Entroup/CBO will report/show X RMB for movie A. The thing is, at the moment, there are nearly 4000 theaters reporting daily numbers (daily numbers does not necessarily mean every theater has to report numbers every day ... you know some theaters could be not reporting for a few constant days). So usually the actual daily gross of movie A would be roughly close to 2X. Except CBO/Entgroup do not do projections at all. However, if around 13pm, some Weibo users decide to report the previous day numbers early, they will have to do projections based on the theaters that have reported. Usually, to be more accurate, Weibo users will wait till 16pm 17pm or even later sometimes.

Click here everyday, and at the end of the table, it shows how many theaters have reported. Always check the number of total shows and theaters.

FYI, China Film Special Funds is the official film box office ticketing system in China. What they do in China is like what Rentrak are doing in the US. Theaters (and chains), distributors, studios (including Hollywood studios) and the government (tax) share box office revenue based on CFSF numbers.

And as we all know, always take BOM's China numbers and (Hollywood) studios weekend China numbers with a grain of salt —— most of the time, it is just some random estimates provided by studios Chinese offices or partners.

Entroup/CBO numbers is as close to actuals as it gets, since Entroup/CBO database is linked with the CFSF system. Except sometimes when the system is down or too many theaters delay reports, to get a clearer picture of how a certain movie is doing, we have to do some little rough calculation by ourselves (based on the numbers Entgroup shows) or simply wait for a longer time with patience.
