It’s a dragon boat festival weekend, meaning big money for them. Then they shouldn't cry about competition. It could easily opened a week or 2 weeks after F8 since we had no major release during that time frame.
keysersoze123
Only 2 options. 1) Band Hllywd movies during holiday weekends 2) max limit number of showtimes for one movie(like 35% max). 1st is almost happening already. Surprisingly they gave Pirates the holiday date.

Surprisingly they gave Pirates the holiday date. China Film Group planned to give May.30 for Pirates 5. Then something happened and made them change their decision(I guess Disney chose Shanghai for World premiere and got the support from Shanghai government). I hope China can limit the showtimes. 50%+ is really unnecessary for most films on opening weekend. And 10% is really necessary for some blockbusters on third or fourth weekend.

Do you have any pre-sales number for comparison ? But, that is not surprising at all, TBH. PS not on fire out of the gate. Still early but I'm thinking PS less than 15m, 40-50m OD/$6.5m. 150m/$22m OW. 300m/ $44m total 3 hours ago, John Marston said: it's still a sequel with a rushed upfront audience (which is true everywhere) and it made a crazy amount of money. They like to see films ASAP and with 30k screens for Ff8 compared to 14k screens in Dom for a big release, there won't be any legs.
POTUS 2020
P5 tracking 6m per hour. It's not a true Friday. Not sure if it'll double up during prime time. May fall a little short 140m. Sat PS tracking to 32m and total should match today's. Suspect x opened on the 5 day on 3/31 It was flat on Saturday, up 40% Sunday, then flat Monday and down 33% on tuesday. 140, 140, 195, 195, 130 if it follows that pattern. 800m/ $118m OW. Dangal will be down from yesterday and 60% WoW. It will beat all the local releases on Saturday and should get back screens. It should reach 1B by next weekend Edited May 26, 2017 by POTUS

TigerPaw
6 hours ago, Gavin Feng said: local filmmaker begged theaters to give more showtimes for their “good film” Edge of Innocence. The films producer Ann An said this on Weibo: We made many good films like Perhaps Love, 14 Blades, Ip Man 1&2, Tiny Time 1&2, Zhong Kui and so on. All of them earned great WOM from audience. We do solid work and never ask for help from others, which is a very valuable spirit in China film industry. We spend two years to make the film called Edge of Innocence. It earns 9.1 on Maoyan(previews. It will open on Tomorrow). It changed its release date because of actor/actress changing, and was in trouble like budget shortfalls. But those difficulties offered us the great power to make a great work. (actor/actress are good and bla bla bla) It’s a good film no matter which way you review it. But it only has 5.5% showtimes on opening day. Other local films’ showtimes have about 10% on opening day, too. But Pirates 5 has 51%. Local films are definitely dead in this kind of environment. Hope Theaters can cut the showtimes of Pirates 5 and it won’t hurt its box office. Please save local films, please! please! http://weibo.com/1403517201/F4RrPt2hW?type=comment#_rnd1495776309623 3/7 movies she listed are by one of the best actors in HK/China =) If you get wha i mean. But I do hope her movie breaksthrough, get 3rd on Sat after POTC5 and Dangal hopefully
