IMO, China would never be as daring as they are now, if it wasn't for multiple mega local hit. The past 2 years China has seen some insane level of local mega hit that surpassing every MCU film in every way. This give them more leverage to stand up against MCU. 

 

In fact, China ban MCU at a very critical point. Many people actually see EG as a finale, and ready to take a rest on MCU addiction after that and China ban them on this exact moment. Outside of core Marvel fan who pirate the movie, Disney reach almost nobody in China for MCU phase 4. Not to mention their content on Disney+. With MCU plot become more and more convoluted going forward, I am not sure how MCU can rebuild in China going forward.
