Monday is looking good! Has a shot at 921 4-day ($143.1)

yup, I think 200m+ is happening, needs to average 13m p/h, for 931m total $145m.  That locks $200m.

PotC5 dropped 66% the day after DBF but that was earlier in the month when college was still in session. If JW2 can drop -60% to 80m tomorrow it'll reach $220m with a shot at matching JW's $230m

Want to take a moment to recognize how epic RPO's $222 was. JW2 is trying to target that! RPO was a very creative movie, more nuanced than the trailers indicated, and a tough one to sell. It deserved a break-out and thankfully got it from China.

I don't get why this is being seen as a disappointment.  The last one didn't hit 100 mill opening weekend.  This one exceeded that by more than 20%.  So why the "disappointment"?

Because although it started slower (the $99m OW figure is for 5-day opening), it had great legs. The total for JW2 is likely to be lower than for JW. Today, films are more frontloaded than 3 years ago.

Sure, I get that.  But facts are it opened higher and will still finish over 200 million.  I'm not a China box office expert but that seems pretty good to me.

Sure, but being a good result, taking into account the very good reception of the first part, one could have expected a higher opening/total. That's all.

Because “it would explode in China” according to many posts a few months ago  and there was even a recent club that it would more than IW and even though nobody believed that , many believed in 300 million.

why so pessimistic predictions for I2? Deep down it is a superhero flick. shouldnt it fall the typical 600-800m range.

Baymax already accomplished about 600m three years ago.

Just going off of PS which shows the anticipation is not there. Only 1.1m going up just 25% today with 18k shows listed.  PS looking to finish at 3.5m for a 14m/$2.2m OD with 40k shows.  So unless it gets a high rating like Coco(13m/$2mOD) and blows up Saturday, its likely to fall in the Pixar range of 100-260m/$15-40m- IO, Cars 3, FD.  A lot of shows will be lost the following Friday and it will not regain them on Sat-Sun unless it has a high PTA

And it might have hit $300m if it didn't have a quiet 3rd act.  Once we heard of the third act, the low douban rating from neighboring countries and PS not popping, those expectations were toned down a week out. That's why we track
