Will Incredibles 2 have the legs or is it back to square one with Pixar In China.

An ok $50-60 total probably. Dory did $40 (2nd biggest Pixar after Coco's $190), but I think a combination of family story and CBM should have helped I2. Does make Coco look like an anomaly for Pixar.

It wont have legs with a less than 100% bump today and screen loss next weekend.  Toons in general aren't the blockbusters in China like they are in other markets. So its not necessarily a Pixar square one issue. Only 4 toons have cleared 1B/$150m while there are dozens of live action that have topped 1B.  Frozen and SLoP made less than $60m.  The chinese can say "why did RE6, XXX, and WC make less than $50m in domestic?" while they all cleared 1b/$150m in china.

It's simple, as a film maker, assume you will make less than $50m on a toon in CBO while making $800m+ WW. If you get a Zoo, Coco or DM3 lucky breakout, its sugar on top.

So JWFK cleared 200 mill.  Can it finish with 250?

It has some big competition comming up $250m would mean 1610m yuan (6.45 ER). Potus said he was thinking about 1550m.

So 240 China

It just opened in North America this weekend and that includes Mexico.  Then it still has Japan in July, where the first grossed 70 million.

I could see 350-375 in the US/Canada.  That's 600 between China and the US/C.

So to me, 1.2 billion seems likely.

Yeah it's legs so far haven't been bad. No big competition till Ant-Man but by then it will have  done most of it's gross in Asia.

Was that weak for Animal Farm? Its PTA was less than JW and I2.  I thought previews would be packed

Is AF supposed to be a breakout movie? Is it the Chinese movie adaptation of Orwell's novel? If yes, Chinese people should love it as it deals about socialism/communism and authoritarianism.

Lol would you liked them to look white instead?? Its animation, they use exaggerated features. Don't take it personal.

It was directed by a Chinese American Woman.

And that may be the issue. Indian Americans perceive things differently to Indians for example. Her experience and viewpoint is definitely not the same as actual Chinese people.

The fact that a woman directed Pitch perfect 2 does not make the female characters any less of a stereotypes in that movie. Similarly, saying a Chinese American directed something does not exempt it from criticism.

It has 5m PS for Friday. Should be a decent opener.  Firedeep thinks it will do well. But 20m with a 34k show preview on a saturday isnt that big

It’s called Animal World. Nothing to do with Orwell’s book.
