Hard to pick a favorite Carpenter film since they're so different covering such a wide range of material, but if I had to, it would likely be this one. Gets better and better with each re-watch, endlessly quotable, and one of Kurt's more entertaining roles. Damned funny with so many fun wink & nods to the classic martial arts movies.(points to Chinese writing on wall)"What does that say?""Hell of the Boiling Oil""You're kidding.""Yeah, I am. A!As iconic as "The Thing" and "Escape from NY" and some others are, but that's my most watched Carpenter film. It's got sooo many funny scenes and one-liners I don't know where to begin. And Kurt "I was born ready" Russell and Kim Cattrall and a lot of lipstick ... just wow.

Yeah I have to say I really like this movie.  I did from the first time I saw it.  I can watch it at any time and if it's on tv and I catch it halfway through, I will still watch it to the end.

 

It's so over the top with everything.  It's really funny.

 

I love how Jack Burton is basically worshipped by everyone where is is basically the buffoon in the whole movie except for one part.

 

So many great lines too.

I can see how, if you're watching it for the first time now, after THE MATRIX and all sorts of wire-fu and Asian influences have made it into action/adventure films, it might seem dated or overrated.

 

But it was literally decades ahead of its time, and in some aspects, did things that movies don't even try to do today: like have the leading man "hero" -- played by a big star, no less -- actually be a buffoon/jerk/sidekick and have the traditional "sidekick" actually have all the heroic moments and take the traditional hero's journey.
