Well, it mainly comes from book 5. Where she sits... and sits... and sits... and sits.

I don't personally dislike her, but that's where it comes from for many people.

Yeah, I can understand how that can be annoying (it annoys me that she doesn't come to take the Iron Throne already), but even so she is the most interesting character around. Cersei is a close second (book Cersei, because I feel the TV show doesn't give her enough screen time).

In the books Dany is also a lot more immature since she's 3-4 years younger than her show counterpart. So she gets some flak for acting like a dumb teen girl a few times.

I think some dislike Dany as she seems to be the Kid with silver spoon.

 

 

However she has acted on strength and power and has a lot of potential making her very liked.

Dany has a lot of fans and she does have her good points. But someone at westeros.org made a great point:

 

If Stannis was a POV and instead we just followed some close associate of Dany's, the general fan opinion of the characters would be inversed. Getting inside a person's head does wonders for making them sympathetic. Biggest example: Jaime.

Or in Cersei's case... getting inside her head made her even more batshit to all of us, lolol.
