Plain Old Tele

Hollywood Reporter does a big feature about Harry Knowles

Recommended Posts

It s not Harry who changed, it is the studios and the way they had to handle the promotion of their movies because of what was happening with AICN.

Killing the exclusives and insiders  thing in the process that was the POWER of AICN.

Do websites that followed Harry's footsteps have really an added value to them ?

They just report what the studios give to them, nothing more, nothing less, with the help of a competent web designer to make it look pretty.

The studios just learned to tighten their security of their movies and distribute their intel with parsimony.

Knowles may be immature, but he is what we all really would love to be. A movie geek who makes (made) a living off of being a movie lover. Maybe the world passed him by but he got to live the dream for many years. His head was even in the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The guy has done well. It might be coming to an end, but it sounds like with all his memorabilia, he could make a pretty penny from it and live well.

Anyone who had a website during the early days of the internet had a chance to be influential because there were so little of them. Once the internet became more easily accessible, it was easier for everyone to have a blog or website or make their opinion known. I just don't find movie critics fascinating or influential. They're definitely part of the marketing and hype machine, but that machine is just designed to hype things up. People who claim to be experts because they give their opinions on a particular subject don't really do anything for me personally.

isn`t he banned from Skywalker ranch for giving AOTC a glowing review?

Wouldn't they be thrilled? ;)

It was Drew McWeeny back when he was "Moriarty" at AICN. He got banned for posting script bits from PHANTOM MENACE, but in the last year the ban was rescinded (ironically, so he could go to the ranch for TPM: 3D).

For Mifune and George Lucas. he didn`t ruin his younger son with a geek name most likely because Tennessee rednecks kick the shit out of Toshi. Who wouldn`t? The name`s too retarded even by Honey Booboo standards.

Fortunately for Toshi, he lives in LA, so plenty of weird names here.
