@keysersoze123 is Civil War doing anything notable in MTC1 yet? Was thinking it could approach a $25-30M OW before presales started, interested if sales are reflecting that
Civil War MTC1
Early Shows(4/8) - 2430/9257 57299.70 29 shows
Previews - 6851/332600 139096.05 1649 shows
Friday - 4682/548178 89748.26 2652 shows
Its definitely not bad. I definitely can buy @Shawn Robbins call here. its start is stronger than Monkey Man or Fall Guy. Hope the trend continues and have a successful movie.

Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire MTC1
Previews(T-6) - 40173/567596 776921.5 2979 shows +3150
Friday - 38599/842015 712993.41 4418 shows +4110
Acceleration is still anemic. For now bumping down my previews to 7-8m. Still think it will finish strong but not at the level I expected when the presales started.
Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire MTC1
Previews(T-5) - 43607/567712 839031.33 2981 shows +3433
Friday - 43862/842039 806261.62 4422 shows +5263
More I think, Friday will be 2.5x the previews. 7m previews could still take OD to 25m and OW in high 50s. Slightly higher numbers will take it to 60s OW.

Target is pulling out of it for different reasons. One big thing is current scanning methods are rudimentary. Retail has been without innovation for decades. Amazon did try a store where you just get scanned once for Prime membership and then just taking products out would check them out once you are out of the store. No question of shop lifting or stealing over there.
Still despite these examples, tons of jobs have been lost due to self checkout and many other automation. I dont think that trend is going to reverse. As much AI its going to be robotics and many other tech. After all automobiles took out horses and the coachmen. Its part of evolution. Industrial revolution also took out tons of jobs. But new jobs are also created as part of these changes. Some we cannot even think as of today.

Automation is inevitable. Tractors took away the jobs. Self checkout counters as well. Computers took away tons of jobs. Automated elevators took away the jobs. I think its inevitable movie making will also go that route. That said its bad to patent anything created with AI.

Reminder for Pixar budgets, that's the number to run the studio. So it cost $200 mil to run the studio during production, more or less.
Yes. I remember reading on this. entire studio works on the movie and back then there were 300+ folks. I am sure animation costs or not that high.
I was impressed the across the spiderverse creating amazing animation at lower budget but that came at a great cost where CGI folks were squeezed and pushed to work crazy timelines. So there is cost to things. Question is if Studio is paying it or the poor employees. I would rather have studio pay.

I don't understand why $200m budget is nessecary for the budget. Incredibles, Finding Nemo budgets are only in the $150m range adjusted for inflation. Hell, even Soul was in that range (Luca never got a reported figure but I'd imagine it's similar).
Inflation is not a good barometer. Silicon Valley inflation is way higher than overall inflation.

Under indexed at MTC1 unless afterlife number did not include early shows BO.

Friday for day before was run really late and so its couple of hours less. But still no sign of a major acceleration. That will happen only next week I think.

Any chance it comes close to $40M in Japan in order for the film to hit $1B? Seems unlikely to me but Japan does have a connection to the film no other country can claim and that might be enough to drive it higher than expected.
We will next weekend for sure. Its hard to predict that market. Pearl Harbor did break out over there.

Oppenheimer has achieved almost everything. Next is only strong run at Japan. Early PS makes me slightly optimistic it will do very well in large cities with big expat population.

At MTC1 it should end up selling more tickets than afterlife. Plus the movie did very well in MTC2. Let us see how walkups go. Thinking in 4.25-4.5m range and high 30's OW at this point.

Friday - 62852/930475 998591.10 5199 shows +16159
Final day was solid but nothing crazy. I expect walkups at other MTC to be stronger. It did just around 3% higher than afterlife minus early shows. Thinking around 4.25m previews and mid to high 30s OW.

Monkey Man MTC1
Previews - 6222/138521 116422.56 982 shows
Friday - 3782/243527 68875.02 1680 shows
This is as of the morning. I had to go out and so could not put it out. There is not much of a pace for this movie. around 200 tics per day for previews and 150-170 for Friday. Probably will not sell much until release week. Looking at @Shawn Robbins prediction above, seems bit too optimistic. That said I hope I am wrong and it finishes very strong and does over 20m OW. For now I would be happy with double digits OW.

Let us not make this thread about RT reviews. For a monster movie, the RT is irrelevant. Jurassic World movies has always had backloaded pre-sales despite awful reviews. People are not going to a Zilla and kong movie expecting a classic for sure.

@Issac Newton how many screens is it getting for its OW. I am hoping it can get as many Imax as possible in large markets for a big OW.

I won't call them strong. Fairly normal.
Back then I was tracking MTC2 as well, it almost sold same amount of tickets over there. That was not normal.

Afterlife had very strong walkups as well. That is why I am expecting better that what its looking projection at this point. Plus stronger boost with Tmobile deal compared to 2021 when certain segment of audience were reluctant to go to theaters.
That said something in 4s is the most likely scenario.
