  5. 3D no longer has the same novelty The world of Pandora no longer has the same novelty It's a sequel There definitely does exist a level of backlash/negativity around the first film These factors strongly indicate Avatar 2 doing less than Avatar. Two things to always remember though: James Cameron has a fantastic track record when it comes to sequels Even if Avatar 2 makes half of Avatar, that's still alot of money.
  6. Sorry to say but Boyhood. It was good, don't get me wrong. I gave it a A- but it wasn't the best movie of the year for me (I liked Interstellar, GOTG, Lego Movie, CA2 and Sniper better)
  7. Where did the term "horn" originate?
  8. Indeed. The real surprise is that Ice Age 4 did as well as it did domestically.
  9. Wow! You're right. I remember being surprised at the time at its legs. It stayed in theaters awhile.
  10. many of the messages here are great. i love it. in creating this thread i was more talking about movies which looking back you wonder why it made so much. in retrospect you get why Frozen did so well. It's a fairy tale Disney film using a time tested formula. however, looking back, can anyone explain to me how National Treasure 2 made $220m?? how meet the fockers made $260m? how paul blart adjusts to $160m?
  11. Mummy - $155.4m Mummy Returns - $202m Scorpion King - $91m Mummy: Tomb of something something - $102.5m
  12. Many people in the NE will be wanting to get out of the house this weekend for sure. Hopefully the weekend will stabilize what should be higher dailies.
  13. Unadjusted list: http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/domestic.htm Hmmm..let's see.. all of the Harry Potter and Twilight movies. That's it out of the top 100.
  14. Hard to believe Mummy 4 managed to cross $100 million yet it did. http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=mummy3.htm
  15. We'll probably see a better than usual weekend (at least Friday and Saturday) given the snowstorm. 45% drop for $35-36m
  16. What young actors today do you anticipate being the next Tom Cruise/Tom Hanks. Leading actors who draw massive audience and are in all the big budget films.
