Zootopia picked up another 350K units and 8M$ (Blu Ray only) in its 2nd week which is in line with what The Lego Movie did 2 years ago. Comparing week-to-week with Minions and Inside Out doesn't really work because the former was released two weeks before Christmas while the latter was released a couple weeks before Thanksgiving. SW - TFA is now only 200K units behind Avengers for 4th place all time on Blu Ray. It is ranked 3rd in terms of dollars (not counting boxed sets). Deadpool is one week away from entering the top 30 All time on Blu Ray in terms of units.

So Zootopia opened about 15% above Lego movie which opened around the same time two years ago. In the span of those two years, Lego Movie had a 3,4X multiplier of its first week of sales, but that included major bumps in 2014 & 2015 Thanksgiving. If Zootopia can follow the same trend, it should end up between 140-150M$. Without those bumps, Zootopia is looking at somewhere around 120-130M$, which would still put it above Inside Out and Minions.

If they remade the Prequels, who would you want to direct?
langer replied to DAJK's topic in Star Wars's Topics
I would like Georges Lucas to direct the remake of the prequels. -
Projections are based on data and extrapolates the trajectory of a movie's BO after it has opened. Predictions are mostly based on feelings before any data is available and before the movie is released. If no one is allowed to make projections after a bad prediction, then no one should post on these boards.

Star Trek Beyond and Ghostbusters box office: What Went Wrong
langer replied to grim22's topic in Box Office Discussion
Ghostbuster is a chick action-comedy. The best ones tend to gross between 100-150M$ (SPY, The Heat). This is not a standard market. -
We finally have some Blu Ray numbers for Deadpool (34M$) which landed below GotG (45M OW - 74M current) , JW (42M OW - 89M current) and The Hobbit AUJ (36M OW - 86M current). It's worth noting that it did better than MoS (29M OW - 65M current). I expect Deadpool to end up around 75M$, good enough for top 10-15 all-time on Blu Ray. Deadpool should also get about 30M$ on DVD when all is said and done, enough to get over 100M$ on combined revenue. To put things in perspective, let's how rare it is nowadays to hit 50M$ on DVD. Last movie to reach 50M$ on DVD : Inside Out - current 51M$ 2015 (closest since :Minions at 46M$ 2015) Last non-animation movie to reach 50M$ on DVD : The Hunger Games : CF - current 63M$ 2013 (closest since : GotG at 47M$ 2014) Last non-animation & non-sequel to reach 50M$ on DVD : Pitch Perfect - current 88M$ 2012 ( closest since : GotG at 47M$ 2014) Movies that hit 50M$ on DVD released in 2016 : 0 Movies that hit 50M$ on DVD released in 2015 : 1 Movies that hit 50M$ on DVD released in 2014 : 3 (Frozen hit more than 200M$) Movies that hit 50M$ on DVD released in 2013 : 6 (Despicable Me 2 hit over 100M$) Movies that hit 50M$ on DVD released in 2012 : 9 (THG, Avengers, Brave and Twilight BD1 all hit over 100M$) Movies that hit 50M$ on DVD released in 2011 : 9 (Harry Potter DH2, Tangled and Cars 2 all hit over 100M$) In other news, Star Wars TFA (131M$) has passed JW (125M$) to become the biggest hit on combined HV since Frozen (371M$) and the biggest non-animation movie since The Dark Knight Rises (152M$). TFA is still headed for 175-190M$ by the end of the year.

Star Trek Beyond | 7.22.2016 | Not an Oscar winner.

Tom Hardy was such a bad Star Trek character. Nemesis is the worst ST movie. -

How are things for you in the 19th century? -
Since we've reached the calendar mid year (but remember that reporting is only up to May 1st at this time), I'll review this. So far, only one movie has reached a milestone, X-MEN DOFP which has reached 50M$ in Blu Ray sales. Since it started the year at 49M$ and had arguably two movies (Deadpool and X-Men Apocalypse) to bump its HV sales, this was guaranteed to reach this mark. The other two "guaranteed" milestones are: Avengers : Age of Ultron - 50M$ Blu Ray. It was at 46M$ and now stands at 48M$ just before Civil War was released. This is still guaranteed. Star Trek (2009) - 200M$ combined. It was at 197M$ and now stands at 198M$. Unless the upcoming movie is an all time flop, this is still guaranteed. From the "likely" category : Captain America :The First Avengers - 50M$ DVD. It was at 47M$ and was still at 47M$ the week before Civil War was released. This is still likely, but note that it had not generated even 1M$ in sales in the last 8 previous months... X-Men The Last stand - 150M$ combined. It started the year ay 146M$ and has not moved so far. Apocalypse was pretty soft at the BO, so this might move to "unlikely" and reach it in 2017. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - 100M$ combined. It started at 95M$ and now stands at 96M$. Same as Apocalypse, might become "unlikely" with the soft BO results and will reach it in 2017. Kung Fu Panda - 150M$ combined. It started the year at 147M$ and is currently at 148M$. It's still possible, but it did not receive a significant boost in January/February and I doubt it will receive one when KFP3 reach the HV market. Guaranteed for 2017 though. Some of the 2017 milestones might even be reached in 2016: Guardians of the Galaxy - 50M$ DVD. Currently at 47M$ with 5M$ in the last 8 months. Despicable Me - 200M$ DVD. Currently at 198M$ with 6M$ in the last 8 months. Despicable Me 2 - 250M$ combined. Currently at 244M$ with 6M$ in the last 8 months.
