  1. i am really curios to see this movie, but I have never gotten "Stanning" if that metts raving about a movie you have not even seen.
  2. This needed a very good critical reception to have a chance of being a sucess, and it not getting that. Even the favorable reviews are not exactly raves. COnsensus seems to be that Abrla is very good in the role, bu tthe film does not make the kind of emotianl connection with the audience it needs to It was always a uphill battle; audiences prefer their biopics of musicans to be "feel good"movies..even if the film has to throw reality out the window to be a feel good movie.
  3. Why the hell they chose a charecter as obscure as Madame Webb to make a feature movie aboutis a real puzzle. even a lot of Spidy fans did not know who she was.
  4. Watched the first couple of spidosed last night. Loved it. Seems to have hit, from the response, that happy spot where you don't need to have played the games to enjoy it, but has plenty fpf easter eggs for fans of the games.
  5. Well, they had a huge broadway hit in "The Book Of Mormon".......
  6. Once agian, peo-le don't get that someone can be a incredibly gifted artist, but also be a SOB in real life. I give you Richard Wagner....one of the greatest composers who ever lived, but a total disgrace as a human being.
  7. It's going to be a long Six months before the film opens, I see................................... BTW someone mentioned the film exploring the Quinn Joker relationship as being toxic. Irony is the last two season of the Timmverse had the Joker kand Harley break up, and went as far as you could in examining that relatioship in a show that had to acceptable for kids to watch. I think that song Harley sings in one of the episodes, "Say we Are Sweethearts Again" sume it up beautifully.
  8. A musical can still be a seriious movie. I give you West Side Story and Cabaret for exambles. But yeah, Todd is smart in knowing the a muscial will be a hard sell to alot of the Joker's core audience so he will indulge ain bit of misdirection.
  9. Olivia Hussey was just 16 when she playe Julite in the 1968 Franco Zeffereali film..which I condisider to still be the best film of the play. I generaly prefer my Shakspeare to be stright up, without gimmicks.
  10. I also spotted one sequence that screams 'Homage of the final Ballet in An American In Paris",
  11. From some of the shots I saw, I am more convinced then ever that some of the musical numbers will be homages to famous musical numbers from the classic musicals. And Burt Bachharch's "What the World Needs Now" was one of the last songs I could imagine the Joker singing. Which is no doubt why Phillips is using it. My wife noticied something: Gaga was actually leading in the waltz sequence though they used the camera to mimimize it. Makes sense. Gaga is probably a much more experienced dancer then Phoenix. I do share the concern that Harley is not a psychologist who was seduced to the dark side by the Joker. That is an essential part of the character. But I am really looking forward to this one. I also put more credence in the :"Wandavision" theory.
  12. Most of the negative stories about Titanic were not about that the film was bad, but about how trouble the production was, and how it had gone way way overbudget. Which was true. But remain pretty skeptical of the artistic taste of many in the film industry nowdays. TOo many of them have no real love of film, they just see it as product. And that is what is different between now and the golden age of the Studio system For all there many faults..and they had many..the Mayers, the Warners, the Zanuck, the Selznkics, lover movies and being in the movie business. That is not true of many in the businesss today.
  13. My loss o respect for Johnson is based not so much on the film itself, but on the whole way he handled it's not very good reception. His attempts to prove it was some kind of great sucess were just pathetic.
  14. Hey, I would be dissapointed if he did'nt. That has become one of his trade marks. See no reason why it could not work with Superman. My favorite musical scene in a Gunn film was the fight to "Just a Little Bit CLoser" in GOTG 2.
  15. And My opinion is to make a film about a civil war in future America and not have a political take beyond "War is Bad" is a major cop out.
  16. yeah, is ounds more and more like another Sci Fi Futuristic shoot em up. Nothing wrong with that, except is is a missed opportunity. I will give it a miss. The "Fallout" series on Amazon Prime seems to be a much better get for some apocalupitc fun.
  17. I have come to the opinion that both the left and right in the USA are full of loons.
  18. I think a film about a potential CIvil War in America that does not take a political stand is very much chickening out and makes the whle exercise meaningless except as just another shoot em up. One of the very, very, very, few times I think Randolph has a point, and even then she expresses it very badly.
  19. As much as I dislke Grace Randloph she has one point right; Nobody who really understood American politics would have California and Texas as allies.
  20. People are very good at reading things into movies that are not really there. The baddies in this seem to be like those in the Hunger Games movies. evil rulers who politica are vague enough to you can read into them any ppolitical group you don't like. Ah, well, I dropped any hope of this bein halfway revelent when I read that California and Texas were allies.... It's Grace Randolph, what do you expect?
  21. Black Adam seems to be pretty obscure charecter to build a cinematic comic universe around. Ad please don't give me "Iron Man" as a reply, Iron Man was much better known then Black Adam. I have lost a certain amount of respect for Johnson over this; I think he let his ego take over and that is not a good thing. WB was never going to give him creative control of the DCU.
  22. He has been paid. 2O million, and on top of that no doubt he has a piece of the gross.
