  1. Actually I find the incredible public meltdown of Josh Trank to be the most interesting thing about this fiasco. Studios having big budget bombs happens all the time, but you seldom see a director self destruct the way Trank did.
  2. And don't forget that China only allows a foreign studio to get 25% of the box office take. So doubtful China will save FF. BTW, it opened in many major markets this weekend, and took in 34 million. It's bombing overseas as well.
  3. Agreed. It's this generation's "Heaven's Gate" as far as a total,expensive fiasco goes.
  4. It's going to be really good or it's going to be terrible;there is no in between with Bresson.
  5. In the end it was simply a case that Trank was the wrong director for the project. He wanted to do a dark gritty Horror Sci Fi film.."Chronicles 2" basically and Fox wanted a Fantastic Four adventure, probably close in tone to what Marvel Studios does, and the two were never compatible. But my sympathy for Trank is really wrecked by his behavior. I can understand his being upset at Fox,but taking it out on the cast and crew is just, well. real Asshole behavior.
  6. You got to be joking.\ Kate is prettier then Rooney, but Rooney is so much better an actress that it's not even funny.
  7. Actors can always put the blame on the writer and the director. Trank does not have the option......
  8. That's doubtful, for no other reason then Tomorrowland cost 60 Million more then FF....
  9. Up in the air. China has a strict quota of foreign made films that are allowed in each year, and American Studios have a "Gentlemen's Agreement" dividing up the available slots among the studios. Fox can only release so many films in China. Boils down to which it thinks has the best chance in China. IF FF bombs,it chances of getting a slot are low.
  10. When they stuck with all kids model of the FF I had misgivings since that is one of the things that the Story films got wrong. And when it was clear it was going to be Dark,Edgy and TDK style "Grounded" I knew it was going to suck because that is so totally wrong for the Fantastic Four.
  11. I have noticied that these forums have turned "topic drift" into an art form.
  12. And the IMDB users are very, very, friendly to Comic Book Hero movies. Bad news for Fox.
  13. Oh, FF is going to bomb, but it will still manage a opening in the 30 to 40 Million dollar range. But that is NOT good for a film as expensive as FF,and it's going to drop like a stone next week.
  14. Fun to see all the butthurt Sandler fanboys attacking the critics for being snobs. Problem with that is audiences seem to like Sandler nowdays little more then the critics. It will be along time before Sandler will get another 90 Million dollar budget for one of his films after this. Probably some finger pointing at SONY right now over who greenlighted funding this Sandler fiasco.
  15. Yeah, but for every video game movie that is a sucess there are two or three that flop badly. Not a very good track record. It will be interesting to see how Warcraft does next year, since that is one video game movie that the studio is putting really big bucks into.
  16. Baumer has very unusual tastes at time. I think the guy who said that Baumer would like ANYTHING with a lot of 80's pop culture references probably had it right. I think any chance of Pixels being a huge hit with franchise potential (though I could debate the frenchise potential) pretty much died when the decision was made to make into a Adam Sandler starring vehicle, given Sandler's unpopularity among movie goers. He has his fans, yes, but also has a lot of people who will avoid a Sandler film.
  17. Pixels: A good idea for a sci fi comedy ruined by bad execution. And letting Sandler pretty much call the shots on the film (his company co produced it) was the worst mistake. That the Geek Critics....who are the film's prime target demo....ripped it just as much as the mainstream critics tells you something. In the end it boils down to the film just plain not being funny. With a 70 to 90 Million dollar budget it might break even, but still another big dissapointment for Sony. Serves them right for turning it over to Sandler.
  18. Wrong film to be concerned about; it needs to be totatly F---ing different then "Gravity".
  19. Hook is Indiana Jones????????? VFX look OK, but otherwise it looks terrible. And I HATE that what Barrie describes are definently a Native American Tribe has been turned into some nondescript tribal people. I HATE Political Correctness like that.
  20. Magic Mike is in good shape because of it's modest budget, but TG is in big trouble with it's 170 Million price tag.
