  1. I've had Male Right Activists tell me that Gravity is sexist because it perpetuates the 'disposable male' stereotype. I swear to God if a film is anything more than a camera looking at a blank wall for 2 hours, someone, somewhere will cry sexism or racism.
  2. Could your strong male character be seamlessly replaced with a floor lamp with some useful information written on it to help a male hero? In most cases, yes as well. Thats the purpose of supporting characters, to support the protagonist. The real question is why are there so many male hero's in our films but very few female hero's? And I think the answer there is to do with the number of female script writers in Hollywood compared to men and a desire for male Hollywood heads to target the demographics that they know (males) then what they don't really know (females) because a few hundred million dollars is a big investment in something you don't really know. On a side note. EOT did a really good job at a female character IMO. One of the reasons the movie was so enjoyable to me.
  3. Well its not meaningless to you if it feels you with comfort that it makes these arbitrary decisions of ranking films an easier task for you. But the same could be said for a thousand point rating system or a million point system. If I rate Shawshank Redemption 9.5644/10 and The Good, The Bad, The Ugly 9.5646/10, i can easily determine that I should place The Good, The Bad and the Ugly higher on my all time list but what does that 0.0002 difference actually mean? Absolutely nothing. That difference can easily be accounted based on a whole host of factors that have absolutely nothing to do with the films themselves. So to end this little rant of mine, you are perfectly entitled to use your 100 point system to help you make whatever decisions you like! But please don't try to tell me that there is any meaningful distinction between a movie you rated an 84/100 and an 85/100. 7 Point Scale Fo Lyfe Yo. Master Class Great Good Average Mediocre Terrible Gave me Cancer
  4. A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, F is a 10 point scale. It's just for whatever reason people refuse to use the full spectrum of any number based system. People just tend to stop at the number 5 or 6 unless they truley hate a film in which case they give it a 1. So the way most people use a 10 point number scale is effectively as a 6 point number scale anyways.
  5. What is the freaking difference between a movie rated 86/100 compared to a movie rated 87/100. It's like the position of a script writer for a Michael Bay flick, completely meaningless.
  6. 100 point grading system is as useless as a million point grading system.
  7. There is really only one order when it comes to the Indiana Jones films. 1. Raiders A+ 2. Crusade A 3. Temple B 4. Skull............No.
  8. Michael Bay seriously needs to learn how to make a movie that is no more than 100 minutes in length.
  9. The author is right in a sense but its too late to put that genie back in the bottle. It's like walking in on your parents having sex. You can do your best to forget it, but the images haunt your mind forever. The prequels are with us for good and there is no chance imo of getting back that magical first feeling you got when Yoda moved the X-ring or whatever. The best we can realistically hope for is that we get a movie whose characters make us care about all the force action going on around us.
  10. IMDB ratings are not useless. You just have to keep in mind the userbase that tends to frequent that website to gain meaning from those results.
  11. Hands off Pacific Rim. It literally gave me multiple orgasms while watching it. Bad Boys 2 bored me to tears. The original Bad Boys fits the bill though.
  12. Well I binged watched series 1 over the last few days. I had high hopes for this series but unfortunately it misses the mark for me compared to the original BBC series. I think there are two problems with the show compared to the BBC version. 1) Frank Underwood vs Francis Urquhart. Nothing against Kevin Spacey who does a fantastic job with the material he is given but the character as written misses the mark IMO. With Urquhart he was a power hungry bastard for sure, but he had a reason behind his power hungry ways. He honestly thought that what he was doing was for the betterment of England. Only through his ultra conservative politics would England thrive. Underwood on the other hand appears to be a middle of the road democrat whose politics are very flexible and are used only to serve to gain him more power. This difference IMO makes Urquhart a far more interesting and fascinating character to watch. 2) The BBC miniseries was the perfect length with very little waste. Stretching it out to 13 episodes in a season....its like spreading margarine over too much bread. Lots of little side-plots and characters that I really couldn't care less about. For all these faults its still a highly watchable series but give me the original any day of the week.
  13. This is quite simply my favourite horror movie of all time, and I think thats largely because a} It kicks fucking ass b} The people don't act like morons and they are still screwed. c} John Carptener knew how to build suspense and atmosphere.
  14. God damnit. After all that build up and number #1 isn't Alvin and Chipmonks 2????? What a hack fraud of a list!
  15. How is #1 not posted yet! I never knew Panda's liked to tease so much!
  16. This is why a 10 point scoring system is inherently lame...people only use half of it anyways!Super bummed about the negative reviews this film is generating though
  17. Transformers - At least the Bay incarnation of it. Die you sack of shit, die! Paranormal Activity - Look that up in the dictionary and you see it ask you to refer to 'beating a dead horse' Twilight - Just in case Stephanie Myers decides to extend the series. No. For the love that is all that is good and that is holy NO. Bourne - If the Bourne Legacy was anything to go by, please don't dilute this great action trilogy any further please. kthxbye Wolverine - Two stand alone flicks is enough. I hope.
  18. I was tossing up between Butch Cassidy and Once Upon a Time in the West. P.S You are wrong, Unforgiven is the best western movie of all time
  19. I'm soooo glad its not international agree with Baumer day anymore. Batman 89 fo lyfe yo.
