  4. But in my opinion none of that ultimately matters. You are still going against your entire race. You are making the decision to abandon your own species and join another and that is a big big leap. Even if you do feel isolated as a human and worthy as a Na'vi. There needed to be some internal (or external) indicator that he was struggling with his choice. That he understood the gravity of what he was going to be doing to his own kind. I know that if a decision I made would negatively affect 10 Billion people I would be struggling to justify that even if I did live life as a hermit and had no outside contact with them. I'm still part of the human race damn it. We see Jake Scully transform his body from a broken human to a capable Navi through a combination of science and mumbo jumbo BS. We do not however see him struggle with casting aside his humanism and embracing navism. He lacks that depth and thus his closing line of "The Aliens went back to their dying home" comes across as cold and callus to me. The themes on display needed a 3 Dimensional character to be able to pull that off. Jake Scully is simply not that.
  5. I'm sure there is a good story in this movie to tell. But this movie does a lousy job at telling it.
  6. Good film criticism elevates film as an artistic medium. We largely lack good film criticism unfortunately.
  7. I have been using the telstra tickets lately. Amazing that at $10 a ticket I'm quite willing to attend lots more films then I was when I was paying $17.50
  8. Dark Knight Rises is such a perfect film that it defies such simplistic human ideas such as 'release date' But failing that Nebraska is a decent choice....i guess *mumble mumble*
  9. I could not imagine any other theme playing for The Terminator.
  10. Straight up this isn't my kind of film. The essential problem with almost all 'street racing' type films for me is that the characters tend to always rub me the wrong way. They just tend to be dicks. You are engaging in a behaviour that not only risks your life but innocents as well. So yeah sure, Aaron Paul may not had killed his friend, but I mean come-on, you drive fast cars on a course thats not built for it. What the fuck do you expect? Count yourself lucky that no innocents died for your sport. And beyond that the movie is just dumb. What, no evidence of a 3rd car at the accident? Didn't THREE cars just race through hundreds of cars. Are you honestly expecting us to believe that there were no witness to their being a 3rd car there? Lol. And why would this guy just randomly loan you a car he paid 2.7 million for, who you barely know, who knows you have been in jail and therefore 'out of the game' for 2 years just for a chance to win 4 million in a competition he doesn't even have entry to yet. I dont buy it. So what, anyone can just waltz on in and take an army apache helicopter for a spin? Are you fucking kidding me! I could go on and on, the plot is literally the dumbest I've seen since TF2 in the cinemas. If you can turn your brain off and just enjoy the fast cars making car noises while barely avoiding other cars and/or people and if thats all you want from a film then you are probably better off with re-watching a F&F movie to be honest, but I guess it would scratch that itch. If you want a film with any semblance of characters or well written dialogue, or a plot that doesn't make you go WTF every 2 seconds. Then stay faaaaaar away from this film.
  11. I do agree with both of these.....maybe there is still hope?
  12. I think the character that needed to be made complex the most was Jake Scully. I mean, Quaritch is basically right when he calls Jake a traitor to his species. Despite the corporate greed you do get the impression that their are billions of people back home that are in need of this mineral to maintain a quality of life and Jake doesn't show any remorse in swapping sides. Get your legs back, if only in Avatar form, and find a hot alien chick to bang and all those people back home suddenly don't seem at all important. If Jake could have at least struggled a little more with his decision I could easily have seen myself come along for the ride rather than simply not caring at all about the outcome of the movie.
  13. You know what, I'm happy to join in. Although I'm not sure if a forum is an ideal format for something like this.
  14. Totally. It reminds me of the RedLetterMedia review for Avatar where he says that one of the two things you need to do to bring the audience along in a movie like this was make the audience hate the villans. In whatever way you can. No matter how cheap. Which is fine and dandy if BO is all you care about. But what I really would had liked was a movie that looked at its themes with a bit more nuance. Cameron does a great job with his direction. I just wanted to care more about the outcome.
  15. I don't want to live in a world where there are as many Car movies as there are Toy Story movies! Incredibles 2 is my pick as I think it is better setup for a sequel. I have high hopes for Finding Dory as well though.
  16. 17. I loved this movie. Stupid as all fuck but god damn was it a great time in the cinema. 9/10 p.s. Eva Green welcome to the spank bank.
  18. I just wish this movie had better dialogue. My man Cameron can direct a movie like no one other....but his dialogue so often lets him down.
