  1. Can someone please give monthly data either today or tomorrow and year-to-date box office gross + comparison with last year. Thanks.
  2. New films released this weekend: Thursday 28/04 Risen Ratchet & Clank The Huntsman: Winter's War Sunday 01/05 Mother's Day Les Visiteurs: La Révolution [French-language French-Belgian-Czech] The Sea of Trees Un tango más [Spanish-language German-Argentinian] Many cinemas are closed on Friday and Saturday due to the Easter holidays. That is why some distributors set film premieres on Sunday.
  3. Hmmm... box-office discussion became not-so-box-office discussion. I doubt it has to do with anything Putin has done though. There's a clear correlation between dropping ruble prices and dropping oil prices.
  4. How about TJB? What will be this weekend's drop?
  5. Disney is releasing blockbuster after blockbuster after blockbuster this year. Those holds are stunning.
  6. Exciting numbers for all three. Could someone give an estimate of the dollar gross for Friday (or a range)?
  7. Whoaaa... almost a spoiler there. I'm not accusing you of anything but just reminding everyone to be careful.
  8. Is that number (728,799) admissions or gross? And if gross, in what currency? Comps to other MCU films?
  9. I don't remember what happened at the time, but Corpse had a choice to leave or not. If he felt so offended by a specific user, then he could've just reported that user. We can't blame No Prisoners for the fact that Corpse left.
  10. "At today’s exchange rates in the same suite of markets that Cap 3 opens this weekend, Ultron did $212M, Iron Man 3 $160M and Winter Soldier $78M." (Deadline) I think this is the number we should be hoping for although anything above $200M would be perfect.

After this point the films dropped below the Weekend Top 10 and further information about their total admissions was not reported. Their totals should be between 5,000 and 20,000 more than what I have here. **This film was released on Easter weekend which is nototriously quiet for moviegoing. No wonder it had such a high multiplier. ***No info on the nationwide opening of 'Wallace & Gromit' was found. This is an estimate based on the reported number for Athens (6,000 admissions). This is the long-delayed table of DWA films. 'Kung Fu Panda 3' has a slim chance of jumping ahead by two spots but not any more. As far as sequels go, it is the third lowest one, but it is above Kung Fu Panda 2. Its muliple however is the lowest for the series and don't forget that I haven't included previews in its opening weekend admissions, which makes it even worse. Its opening weekend was actually the 6th biggest of the bunch, but with one of the lowest mulitpliers, which probably has to do with the time of year it was released. As expected, films released in December have a much greater mulitplier on average (7.8x vs 4.9x).
  12. Weekend actuals: $12.2M Japan: $4M Rest of the world: $8.2M => 33% drop from last weekend Predictions: another $20M from OS-Japan. Another $40M from Japan. => Needs $32M from US to reach $1B. All 3 numbers are not impossible but I think it will be tough.

It could be the nice weather, it could be the deepening crisis, it could be the absence of something interesting to see but, in any case, people are choosing to not go to the cinema. First place expectedly went to 'The Jungle Book'. However, its performance was underwhelming compared to its grosses in other countries. It was worse than most high-profile family films released in the past months ('The Good Dinosaur', 'The Little Prince', 'Zootopia', 'Kung Fu Panda 3') and it doesn't comapre well to other Disney live-action films either: Disney live-action (since 2008) Title Opening weekend Release date National Treasures: Book of Secrets 85,000 03/01/08 Alice in Wonderland 83,183 04/07/10 Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time 60,569 20/05/10 The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian 49,818 21/08/08 Maleficent 45,705 29/05/14 Cinderella 44,917 12/03/15 The Lone Ranger 33,255 04/07/13 John Carter 22,066 08/03/12 Oz the Great and Powerful 21,936 07/03/13 Tomorrowland 21,441 28/05/15 The Jungle Book 20,488 21/04/16 The Sorcerer's Apprentice 20,479 16/07/10 Tron: Legacy 19,262 16/12/10 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2' and 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' continued their precipitous decline. The former will probably finish around 90,000 admissions and the latter around 275,000 admissions. 'Dirty Grandpa' and 'Criminal' had somewhat more decent holds but all films are headed for big drops next weekend (and during the upcoming weekdays) since this Sunday is Easter Sunday and one reserved for celebrations and family reunions, not moviegoing. This past weekend's total admissions almost beat the previous one's record-low for 2016, but Easter weekend will claim that record with ease. 'Kung Fu Panda 3' and 'Zootopia' both dropped more than 50%, essentially pushing their runs nearer to the end. A torrent of new releases failed to make any waves, despite many of them opening on more than 20 screens. Distributors have evidently flushed whatever films they thought were not gonna make any money down the drain and are looking forward to the post-Easter period. 'Captain America 3', 'Angry Birds', 'X-Men: Apocalypse' and 'Alice Through the Looking Glass' will be released on four consecutive May weekends.
  14. It's just crazy that they'll reach/they've reached $900M. I mean I would have been happy with around $500-600M for either of them. These numbers are completely insane. If they miss $1B, no big deal. P.S. After the success of these two films, Disney is guaranteed to win the year. Fox is its only significant rival and its chances to beat Disney are slim.

I also wanted to add that in contrast to the people who were making fun of me last year because of my astronomically inaccurate estimate of Jurassic World, I at least have the decency to make fun of you guys because my estimate of Kung Fu Panda 3 ($530M) is actually very close to the actual. The people who made fun of me for Jurassic World had wildly inaccurate predictions too, just not as inaccurate as mine, so they were just being a*sholes.
  16. It only opened in 3 small countries: Czech Republic, Greece and Hungary. The drop was 31% (incl. newcomers which were probs quite small they have no big effect on the % drop). Amazing. $900M is locked. $1B possible.
  17. $10.8Μ weekend - $6.8M from holdovers ($4M opening in Japan) so 45% drop. Not that good if it's to reach $1B - hopefully actuals will be higher.
  18. There's no way this can do less than $300M in NA. If next weekend also has small drop then it could get close to $350M
  19. Since we're all waiting for Zootopia results, I can tell my story too. I started participatin in this forum in the spring of 2014. I wanted to be able to find 'Frozen' numbers for Japan more frequently than every Sunday, which is why I was so annoyed with Box Office Mojo. This forum solved this problem but also made me kind of addicted too. Box Office Mojo has only gotten worse since then so I can't imagine what I'd do w/o this forum.

  21. I think less than $70M actually. You might be forgetting that its run in NA is not over yet.
  22. Weekend 14-17/04/2016 Ranking Title Weekend admissions % Change from last weekend Total admissions Week 1 My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 15,103 -55.6% 64,897 2 2 Dirty Grandpa 9,172 N/A 9,172 1 3 Criminal 7,235 N/A 7,235 1 4 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 5,929 -59.7% 265,545 4 5 Zootopia 4,271 -33.5% 128,501 7 6 Kung Fu Panda 3 3,775 -50.3% 119,987 5 7 Somnia 2,955 -47.8% 12,917 2 8 La Novia [English-language Spanish-Turkish-German] 2,190 N/A 2,190 1 9 Fuocoammare [Italian] 2,006 N/A 2,006 1 10 Suntan [GR] 1,938 -59.2% 19,607 3 Source: http://flix.gr/news/box-office-14042016.html A new record-low for 2016 was achieved this weekend with total admissions falling below 70,000. The absence of any high-profile releases and the drastic drops across the board (starting with 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2') are to blame. It is now official: 'Wedding 2' has tanked. Not only did open very softly but word-of-mouth is simply horrendous. Reaching 100,000 admissions will be tough and unlikely. Along the same lines, 'Batman v Superman' continued its precipitous fall to the bottom with a 60% drop. If it is lucky, it may reach 280,000 admissions. 'Zootopia' established its lead against 'Panda 3', out-grossing the latter over the weekend. As happened this week in most other countries, 'Zootopia' may experience another 50%+ drop next weekend, when 'The Jungle Book' is released. It will arrive just in time for the Easter holidays, which may not be as lucrative for other films, but animated/family films should get their fair boost over the two-week period. I still think 'Zootopia' can reach 150,000 admissions but it is far from a certainty. There is really nothing to say about the rest of the films, openers or holdovers... disappointment is in the air.
