The other thing to consider is the marketing campaign was condensed, and despite this it's still performing very well. Make no mistake had it had the same release date but been able to have a proper time frame to market it would be doing much better.
That's not the problem. The problem is people go to see superman because of the character and no one gives a rats ass who plays him so long as he's tall built and has a superhero face. The character itself isn't interesting enough to give who ever plays him a chance for the audience to fall in love with him in todays market.
I want Cruise to work with Nolan on an original piece. Alfonso Cuaron would be great for MI6. He's great when the script is right, and the guy knows how to make a movie visually pleasing.
