  1. yeah really not sure why there are no reviews yet. Okay maybe reviews are crap but bad reviews is better than no reviews. I thought for quite a while this would open close to Kong Skull Island but those hopes are pretty much crushed now. I mean my local IMAX has sold 4 tickets for opening night tomorrow... need a WWW thread already?
  2. I think you are being pretty unfair. You say there are not many original expensive live action action films that open above 40M but how many are there full stop... It's not like 9/10 open below 40M it's just that there aren't many released at all. "Only 1 in 2017" but there are only 2 released in 2017. The other being Valerian. That's it. So not sure what your point is.
  3. How is infinity war guaranteed to open over 200M? The last two avengers movies didn't manage it.
  4. gonna do everything I can to avoid the trailer... want to go into the movie and see it fresh on the biggest screen possible without having seen any footage spoiled for me already! don't understand why people care about trailers if they know they're gonna see the movie anyway. its just having the film spoiled for you.
  5. boxoffice.com has finally updated their ridiculous sub-20 numbers to 37M. https://pro.boxoffice.com/long-range-tracking-action-point-adrift-updates-avengers-infinity-war/
  6. I wish these IMAX docs would come to one of my local IMAX cinemas. They only ever seem to show them in London annoyingly.
  7. Can someone please explain why Aladdin will make more money than Jungle Book? Let alone 400M more... lol
  8. Logan Lucky was one of my favourite films last year, Unsane is definitely gonna be one of the best this year. Soderbergh is a genius here, in some ways I think it's his best film.
  9. Done an indie double bill at the cinema tonight. Thoroughbreds was an absolute snooze. Wrathofhan Biopic was completely mental though and I absolutely loved it.
  10. This has been my most anticipated movie since it was announced, really can't wait. Also fans are now called Megheads? @AndyK feel like you will appreciate this <3
  11. WOW this was boring. I liked Anya but no other good things about this.
  12. SH3 is still in discussion though right? Whereas National Treasure is not going to be made (sadly ) What about HANCOCK? Was a huge hit with an A list star, took 400M overseas too, and was a superhero movie... really surprised that never got a sequel.
  13. oops, forgot to finish with the best movie. Baby Driver was my favourite movie of 2017. Right from the start, it is mesmerising to watch. It has a sense of giddiness that is addictive. So addictive that I went back and watched this again and again at the cinema - I think I watched it a total of 7 times in the cinema. The music and the action flow in perfect harmony - there are scenes where cars drive at the pace of the music, or where there's a gun shot on each drum hit in a firefight. Edgar Wright is an exceptionally talented filmmaker and it's impressive to watch someone who can so elegantly direct a film like this. Combining the music with the acting, with the camerawork and the editing... to steal this phrase from a film critic, it is like watching a pianist play the piano. You're not just amazed by what you hear, you're amazed by what you see them actually doing. It is so impressive. Pure movie magic
  14. It's not a surprise that the film bombed, but yes it is quite stunning just how much it bombed. I don't think the marketing made it very clear what the film was about, which was fine in America where people may be familiar with the book, but the book is not known about outside of the US. Some of the casting probably didn't help - Oprah may be something of a draw? in the US but again no one outside of the US cares about Oprah. Not that I think she's responsible for it bombing, just I think there are several things about the film that can have appeal to domestic audience and not OS.
  15. really depends on what it did this weekend. I don't know if the OS number on BOM has been updated for international estimates for this week. Since it opened in some big markets last weekend eg Mexico where it opened to $900K. If the number on BOM is a week old and the south american markets hold well then it could go over 30M? but we are really talking about single digit millions. It will finish under 35M and most likely under 30M. It has bombed in every single OS territory. And it's not getting a China release either.
  16. it has a few eastern european countries left - where it will probably bomb too.
  17. opening? It opened in wide release last week and opened to £1.6M. we're now in its second weekend
  18. Tomb Raider did OK. Yes, the domestic number was disappointing but the film was not that expensive. Under $100M cost, it is not the same price as things like Warcraft (which is still the highest grossing vg movie btw), or Prince of Persia, which were 200M tentpoles. TR has made it up overseas. Its tripled its budget worldwide so not really a flop.
  19. watched Skull Island again last night and noticed that we're told Kong is still growing. and hes pretty big in that movie in the first place. I don't think the size difference is going to be an issue.
  20. yep tried to see it on Thursday but we couldn't find a showing that wasn't sold out.
  21. congrats on getting a scholarship but seriously you should live at the uni... no point in going if you stay at home IMO. also if you're studying data analytics then you have no excuse not to win every summer and winter game here from now on. cool subject though, it's what I wanted to do before I got kicked out of school.
  22. Oh sorry, I had assumed Quiet Place was R rated which it got here (15).
  23. why? they are not even the same age rating let alone competition for each other. not to mention aqp is a horror movie so will drop hard next week anyway.
  24. The Babysitter was good. Watch that ethan.
  25. err, what? Laika films look more expensive than they actually are? No the films are expensive.
