  1. Because of the presales of BA, plus Shazam was: 1) pre-pandemic 2) Highly praised (best DCEU film at the time alongside WW) 3) More well-known We are not talking about how much it needs to earn to breakeven.. just talking about expectations based on latest presales and buzz.
  2. To be fair no one knew know Thor: Love and Thunder would be such a terrible film... WB might have imagined that would have legs and gross a billion I mean release dates and competition is part of the game; if Shazam opened in Dec instead of March 2019 - it might have easily done 600m worldwide.. It is what it is; let's see how BA does.
  3. Deadline article has already been updated. SATURDAY UPDATE: Black Adam added a host of 19 markets on Friday and has now cumed $30.2M through its first three days at the international box office. Friday rocked $15.8M with the Dwayne Johnson-starrer ranking as the No. 1 U.S. film in all 76 markets in release. With these results, we are still eyeing the $70M range for the opening weekend overseas. In new starts, Friday added the UK with $2M on 1,500 screens and ranking a clear No. 1 with 58% share of the Top 5 films. The results are +52% over Shazam!, 53% ahead of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, 129% above Jungle Cruise and 291% ahead of Skyscraper. IMAX share was a very solid 9% of the total box office.
  4. 100% agreed; I would argue that if Dr Fate didn't sacrifice himself - everyone's favourite character from the film would be Hawkman. He got the looks, the acting, the physique, the authority to be T'Challa. Anyway I am just glad Aldris gets a chance to be in a mainstream superhero film at this stage; hopefully he can be lead in a JSA film.
  5. Part of why he got the best reviews / feedback was also because of his character arc where he sacrifices. Nothing confusing here.
  6. Shazam remains one of the best DCEU movies ever made. So heartfelt.. Unfortunately most of Asia (whom loves The Rock) didnt really like Shazam; so having less of a connection may not be a bad thing.
  7. Unfortunately seems that for DC - even well-received DC films don't do that well. So why not take risks and make films that may appease crowd and Critics may not like? Since critics look really bias in some cases against them. The Suicide Squad and Shazam were incredible, solid movies but did not do well at the BO for various reasons. Hoping Black Adam will do well - it is a genuine crowdpleaser that deserved at least 60 - 65% RT critics score.
  8. unfortunately it is opening 3 weeks before BP2; should have been a summer release. Let's see.
  9. Opening in Taiwan is close to The Batman too. Waiting for Msia and SG numbers.
  10. BA is miles better than MoM... genuinely..honestly. My wife walked out of MoM yet she enjoyed BA. Maybe expectations were different but my theater didn't clap at MoM..
  11. Means the 70% empty comment was really misleading... and doesn't explain the context of it being weekday and really early..
  12. So far from audience review sites (which may indicate WoM) in some parts of Asia where it opened - scores are pretty good. Above average thus far in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia. Unfortunately a new COVID variant is brewing in Southeast Asia (Singapore) post F1; which may affect attendance but WoM thus far from OD is pretty strong.
  13. Are cinemas usually packed on weekdays lunchtime in Greece? For an opening title of course.
  14. I just watched it here in Singapore. Darn good movie IMO; people were clapping at the end and there were some unexpected twists. Dr Fate stole the show. Will rewatch it in IMAX. Very pleasantly surprised - this was not bad at all.
  15. 100% agreed. Let's see whether Black Adam is Aquaman level fun; and see how BP2 stacks up in Nov.
  16. Lol. You are kidding right. I can name 2 worse superhero movies this year itself which are worse than WW84. 😅
  17. Agreed. Black Adam is nowhere near as well-known compared to Venom; who is arguably one of Spidey's best known villian and has appeared in a strong grossing Spiderman 3... I mean inflation aside, if Black Adam can open near Venom 1's figures domestically and worldwide (ex China) - would be a huge deal.
  18. Trailer looks awesome but it has less than a week to market itself. Is 1bn Yuan in play. Tough one. 0 marketing even if a Donnie Yen film, this is risky.
