  1. They can always get Jet Li or Donnie Yen as a key character in the sequel, who are really much bigger draws than Tony Leung though. Curiosity factor of getting Mega stars like Jet or Donnie would boist the sequel IMO and provide some legit action sequences as Tony isn't an action guy. Tony's latest feature - Where the wind blows (with Aaron Kwok) just flopped with less than Yuan 50m in China, and not expected to do well in HK, Msia or Singapore. (limited release in the states too starting tomorrow). Anyway 1st SC did okay because there were almost 0 competition for 4 weekends plus it was the first MCU movie during the pandemic that was not day-and-date with D+, but overall box office is really not much better than Eternals. Simu Liu himself really doesn't have charisma.. and talks too much on social media his own good.
  2. Depending on Marketing costs there, there may be gross revenues but many studios actually lose money if the films don't do well there. But if it is about bragging rights, then yeah always good to have China.
  3. There is China Ping Pong which opens tomorrow as well, was originally CNY release but moved to 17th Feb - heard WoM is good.. even though presales is behind AM3. Then next week there is "A guilty conscience" - highest grossing HK movie in HK (opened during CNY in HK), extremely strong WoM but only opens in China next week. Then every week in March there is a big release. lol.
  4. Hong Kong; we use HKmovie6 app to see reviews. Shang Chi is at 3.7, Eternals at 3.8 (out of 5). China Douban; Eternals score dropped a little, it was slightly above 6. Now 5.8, SC is 6 but very close. Yahoo Taiwan Movies as well in 2021 and Singapore Golden Village reviews but i can't access now... those pages have expired.
  5. Exactly. 3rd act was terrible..and I got reminded of how bad it was when I saw the new Shazam 2 trailer. Plus in Asia, we watch Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Donnie Yen movies growing up; fight scenes in Shang Chi are meh.. from our PoV. But understand why it could be considered refreshing in the West.
  6. think most people in some parts of Asia prefer Eternals over Shang Chi. Shang Chi's 3rd act was atrocious..
  7. Hope so. But hype for that is quite low. Hope WoM is good. It can't possibly move again. lol.
  8. With such a diverse cast, not sure why they do not want to put more of the cast on the poster...
  9. they won't. There is Valentines day movies, China Ping Pong which was already delayed from CNY as well as Hollywood releases that won't get to choose dates.
  10. Think it will do well. Not a fan but Jason Mamoa as the villian creates a curiosity factor.
  11. i know how RT aggregate works. But many people obviously don't - they look at the % to assume quality of a film. Please look at the comment I was replying to. The bar is set higher because the likes of MCU films such as Captain Marvel can get almost 80% RT score. There is thus expectation that 60 / 70ish for a MCU film means they are not really good.
  12. because for MCU, we know how critics have always favoured the films and the % are always inflated. Some of the 80/90percent-ish movies aren't great..
  13. to be honest, I am not sure whether quality matters anymore. MCU fans are really forgiving. Like MoM didnt deter people from Thor4, Thor4 didnt deter people from BP2.. (I mean She-Hulk should have deterred everyone from everything.. Lol). Diehard fanbase, extremely forgiving. I wouldn't be too worried.
  14. Mulan did better despite rampant piracy. Millions watched it before it was released in theaters.. lol.
  15. @Issac Newton would you have Malaysia and Singapore latest figures? inclusive of Sakra and Wandering Earth 2? Thank you!
  16. Yeah I know but I was hoping if Marvel films can be released, JW4 has a 1% chance noting Donnie Yen's involvement and apparentlying being the co-lead. We know his status now in China in terms of being a political figure. But another issue is the violence, China has no film rating system.. Kids can go into the cinema to watch anything, hard for them to not cut out half of any JW movies.
  17. No John Wick: Chapter 4... Sad.. Yes, day-and-date release. Hope it does well cause I am sure it will not do well elsewhere just due to what is happening to the broader DCEU.
  18. Solid. Thanks for the data for Singapore and Malaysia!
  19. Holy..They need to use this as a poster instead at least for Asia. Donnie Yen is a mega freaking star here, and his newest film Sakra which just released during the Chinese New Year just destroyed Singapore and Malaysia's box office (despite terrible piracy issues and film being pretty divisive in WoM) JW franchise has always been mediocre in Asia, they need to put Donnie Yen front and center similar to what xXx3 did.
  20. Not the best trailer. CGI fest (remains me of Shang Chi's terrible 3rd act).. Plus the huge revamp of casts / stories of the DC universe.. I don't think this will do well even though I believe that the film will be good.
  21. Ping-pong of China which had been officially released for 2 days, has now announced that it will change its premiere date to 17th of Feb. All current showings / box office are consider pre-screening / sneak-previews. Poor box office performance caused this decision...not sure whether it will do better in Mid Feb.
