  1. So pretty much no change from the original weekend estimate by WB.
  2. It's an animated film releasing during Spring Break after a dearth of kids-targeted films. It shouldn't have any trouble crossing $100 milllion DOM given the lack of competition.
  3. It's funny because I remember the $154 million KFP3 grossed in China was considered a disappointment at the time. Many people were expecting much higher given how much KFP2 grossed in a much smaller Chinese market. But now, even 1/3 of KFP3 gross would be considered decent in China.
  4. Wonka's hitting Max exactly 12 weeks after its release, so I suspect around the same for Dune. Maybe just after Memorial Day.
  5. It's crazy. Though we never got an official number for Jurassic World, so I wouldn't be surprised if it actually cost more than $170 million. Speaking of inflated budgets, it was also recently revealed TFA cost even more than Fallen Kingdom with a cost of $446.6 million after tax credit.
  6. Even with the actual budget being over $400 million, I would find it hard to believe Fallen Kingdom didn't turn a profit after tripling the budget. Deadline did estimate the participation fees were $200 million for Fallen Kingdom, which seems too high to me. They estimated the same category at $80 million for Dominion even though it was that film that had the big cast reunion.
  7. Forbes has the exact figures after tax credits. Dominion I can understand due to the pandemic, but I have no idea why Fallen Kingdom needed to cost so much more than the first Jurassic World.
  8. Legion's been mentioned more times than he's actually posted in this thread. 😅
  9. I'm guessing it's related to this. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2024/02/04/super-bowl-monday-holiday/72369926007/
  10. Madame Morrible doesn't have that many sung lines in the play (I would estimate maybe 30-40 seconds each in two separate songs). The few sung lines she has are not challenging to sing either. I think Michelle Yeoh will be able to manage even without a musical background.
  11. I'm not so certain. Minions 2 had a more tangible hook to sell (Gru's backstory) than DM4 and families were starved for a big animated film that summer since Lightyear bombed. But I don't think it will do that much worse than Minions 2 if it does go under.
  12. Hope KFP4 can cross $100 million DOM at least like Trolls 3 and Migration.
  13. It will also probably drop over $35 million in Japan too assuming a similar performance to Minions 2 there and no major improvement to ER.
  14. There's zero chance it makes less than Wish WW.
  15. A few years ago I would have absolutely agreed. But given the state of WDAS now, I think even matching the first Moana's OW would be seen as a big win.
  16. Seriously. Many people I talked to felt deceived by the promo campaign. The Battle at Big Rock, the T-rex at the drive-in, etc. If Dominion had been more like that, it probably would have outgrossed Fallen Kingdom.
  17. I guess this shows even Illumination has a hard time selling an original animated film in the current theatrical climate. A shame, because I enjoyed Migration a lot more than any of their recent films.
  18. I also was not particularly impressed by this trailer. Other than the addition of the baby, the plot seems to be just re-treading the same ground as the previous films. Illumination's formula has been very successful, so I suppose this was expected. And I'm obviously not the target audience for it, but all the Minion gags fell flat for me too. The best part of the DM franchise has always been Gru's relationship with the girls, so I was a little disappointed they didn't seem to have much presence in the trailer.
  19. Looks like $200-300 million WW might be the new range most animated films fall in now unless they have above average hype or reception. We had 4 animated films land in this narrow range last year, and Mutant Mayhem wasn't too far from the floor either.
  20. Would love to see future Jurassic movies lean into horror more like the novels. The films have been increasingly lacking in true suspense since the first Jurassic Park.
  21. Sounds about right. Target should be Hop's $108 million to avoid being Illumination's lowest grossing film domestically.
  22. Would be interesting to see if one of the sequels hit $3 billion WW first or the original Avatar (it's so close that re-releases will get it there eventually).
  23. The PVOD date is also when HD pirated copies end up online. It doesn't seem to have much effect on the box office except in piracy-heavy markets like China though.
  24. Migration staying flat with last week. Migration Universal $614,485 -73% -1% 3,224 $191 $88,722,690
