  1. At this rate, it doesn't look like it will pass Toy Story 3 WW.
  2. I'm thinking at least Kung Fu Panda 3 numbers in China (>$150 million). HTTYD was a Western take on dragon mythology whereas this looks very Asian inspired.

  4. One of DAK's central themes has always been the relationship between man and animals, and Avatar fits this mold by exploring the symbiotic relationship between the Navi and the organisms on Pandora (specifically the banshees).
  5. Yeah, the revenue from movies is a distant 3rd behind their media networks and theme parks.
  6. KOTM started with a great 9.0 on Maoyan though and dropped to its current 8.5 a while after opening. H&S will likely start with a lower score on Maoyan (around 8.5) and drop from there.

  8. One of my new favorite TV shows of all-time. I loved seeing the parodies of existing DC/Marvel superheroes, especially the portrayal of Homelander. While the show gets very graphic and violent at times, there is also a surprising amount of humor too. Also, who else enjoyed that box office reference in the first episode? 😉

I won't include it on the list until its target day is more certain. I don't want to dismiss its great performance, but it really did slow down after its record-setting opening weekend. A potential sub-8 multiplier for a mid-July release is quite mediocre. I know that the audience reception was mixed, so that clearly played a part, but it may not beat Toy Story 3 or Finding Nemo after all.
  10. Here is the updated Top 10 All-Time list from Corpse. I think passing Avatar is doable, but it will be a challenge. Right now, WWY is pacing behind Ponyo at the same point in time. Ponyo added around ¥5.5 billion after a much higher 5th weekend to finish with ¥15.5 billion. However, it did start dropping harder than usual after summer ended. I expect WWY to make up lost ground during this time. 11. Asia's performance is not bad in raw numbers but definitely not a breakout performance compared to Europe, Latin America, or even domestic. For such a big event film, TLK won't be making even Top 50 All-Time in China, Japan, or South Korea. Latin America numbers are indeed very strong though, and TLK will end up #2 all-time in Brazil and #5 all-time in Mexico.

Also, there was a typhoon over the weekend that may have deflated numbers a bit overall.

  14. So about half of Sony's $16-17 million expectations for the weekend. Comparing 6-day totals, that would be a 68.5% drop from the first film.
  15. F8 grossed $26.7 million in South Korea. Would be very surprising and a real outlier if H&S increased there compared to every other market's drop.
  16. I've been reading some of the negative reviews, and it seems many of them didn't like the ending. It seems a lot of people felt it ruined the perfect and sweet end to the franchise that TS3 was supposed to be.
  17. Also, on Yahoo Movies TLK is now 3.82 versus 3.19 for TS4 and 4.33 for Aladdin.
  18. Not as good as Aladdin's reception but scores seem much better than TS4 for now. Also about the same as Weathering With You from what I can tell.

  20. $7.5M would be a 87.5% increase from a $4M Thursday. Seems a bit high for this time of year with large percentage of schools still out.
