This debut is 26% higher than its predecessor, and could result in a total near or exceeding ¥2 billion (~$20 million) -- certainly a satisfactory figure for the month of October. >Narratage settles for second place, selling 153,784 admissions over the weekend on 289 screens. Isao Yukisada's adaptation of Rio Shimamoto's 2005 novel delivered a respectable debut, and it should be aiming for a total near ¥1.5 billion (~$15 million). >Ajin: Demi-Human held well in its second outing, and should be able to exceed ¥1.5 billion (~$15 million). >Hidden Figures held remarkably well in its sophomore frame, and I hope Fox and theater chains consider expanding it in the upcoming weeks. >Alien: Covenant managed to remain in the Top 10 for one more week, but its legs have been quite poor and it's definitely not reaching ¥1 billion (~$10 million) now. Very disappointing result here.

  7. Movie deserves big silver screen in a big dark auditorium, the bigger the better, size matters here.....
  8. It's pity to see that a lot of great foreign language film only have best foreign language category to compete, I thought the expansion of best picture category would help, like the case of city of god, diving bell and pan labyrinth, they can have great chance to be included in best picture nominees list if more than 5 films allowed. With more than 5 films, the omission would become much less likely.....but still, ever since the expansion, only one sneak in, amour and the artist(french silent film)
  9. I remember in last decade, the foreign language film, despite snubbed for best pics, still get a tons of nomination or even winning in major category, like Amelie, City of God, Pan Labyrinth, Diving bell, La Vien Rose.....but now, the presence of foreign language in major category is becoming rarer and rarer.... Is this indicate the declining of quality of european/Latin film?
  10. any chance for any foreign language film to sneak in? The last foreign language to grab best pic nomination was amour in 2012, 5 years ago...
  11. but I dont supposed german like horror, their gross for horror like conjuring 1,2 and Annabelle , tends to make about half of france.....so how is the performance of IT in france could suggest IT's prospect in germany....
  12. New Line’s horror reboot It debuted in 10 additional territories this weekend and continued to break international records. Andy Muschietti’s film grossed a further $60.3m on 15,375 screens in 56 markets, representing a drop of just 37% from the massive opening last weekend in holdover markets. This brings the international running total to $152.6m and the worldwide tally to $371.3m. In Mexico, the film generated $13.8m on 4,300 screens, which is the biggest opening weekend ever for a horror film, the biggest Warner Bros opening weekend of 2017, and the third-biggest opening of all time for a Warner Bros film. Sweden also boasted the biggest opening weekend ever for a horror film and the biggest Warner Bros opening weekend in 2017, producing $2.6m on 186 screens, clearly ranking number one. The delivered had the biggest opening weekend ever for a horror film in Israel, Portugal, South Africa and Turkey. It grossed $8.2m for $27.7m in the UK, dipping just 38% from last weekend and maintaining the number one position in the market. Australia dropped a mere 33%, generating $4m for $11.8m, and fending off four new opening films in the market to stay number one. Meanwhile, Russia added $4m for a running total of $13.8m. In Brazil, the horror film added $3.4m, a 41% decrease from last weekend, for a running total of $10.9m. Spain produced $2m for $7.2m, Indonesia generated $1.4m for $4.1m, dropping just 1%, while Holland brought in $1.3m for $3.3m. The UK is the top grossing territory on $27.7m, followed by Mexico on $13.9m, Russia on $13.8m, Australia on $11.8m, Brazil on $10.9m, and Spain on $7.2m. South Korea has generated $5.9m, Indonesia $4.1m, Holland $3.3m, India $3.2m, Chile $3m, and Malaysia $2.9m. It will debut in France and Argentina this week and opens in four IMAX markets including France and Argentina. From screen international, more detail on country breakdown
  13. agree, Star Wars wasn't that popular among GA, at least here in Malaysia(part of Asia), especially compared to Marvel, DC or F&F, or even MInion.....
  14. Indonesia meanwhile dropped by just 1% to lift its cume to $4.1M , from deadline.....21 Sept's public holiday should help further! But that $4.1m seem too low if IT dropped just 1%, the opening was already $2.7m, 1% drop should give it another $2.6m, which total up to at least $5m?
  15. I hope IT could hold better, indonesian loves horror flick, I rarely see a horror to be in the top 10 of yearly chart in any country, and I think it is a relatively new brand in indonesia, the holding power should be better than Annabelle 2
