  1. It's even funnier with all our reactions cause it makes it seem like no one really supported it and yet it somehow got to #7 anyway
  2. Best performance in Steve Jobs? Seth Rogen. And hardly anyone seemed to notice.
  3. Even with my ambivalence towards The Master I'll easily take PTA's 2002-2014 period over 1996-1999. PDL and Blood are brilliant and Inherent Vice improved a lot in my eyes after I read the novel and then watched it a second time.
  4. It's not that no one ever did what Watson's character does in the movie, the problem is that, The movie takes a chunk of hugely complicated actual history and flattens it till there's nothing left but a mediocre Columbo episode.
  5. It is kinda terrible. Tries to be a based-on-real-events drama and a schlocky quasi-supernatural horror at the same time and in the end just falls apart. No character or thematic depth, just a bunch of overwrought genre clichés striving for respectability.
  6. Broadly speaking, they are both films about what contemporary America is and/or could be, and what people who live in it are to each other. There are musical numbers in one and dance numbers in the other (Nashville also has an awful and degrading stripping scene), and both build to a 4th of July rally. They are obviously not parallels in terms of construction or subgenre or other major elements, but they do evoke each other in my mind.
  7. Yeah I've only seen the movie once and I still vividly remember that. It's some dark shit. Yet it co-exists perfectly with the hilarity/stupidity.

  11. Yeah lots of promise here. A lean, mean, bloody and beautifully shot genre flick with Patrick Stewart as a neo-nazi? Sign me the fuck up.
  12. It looks like this year he himself doesn't give a shit about either of his releases.
  13. They are today's Gramercy/USA Films
  14. Hopefully A24 has fun selling it to people.
  15. According to RTM about six people did. Was my second most-nominated movie after Fury Road.
  16. I finished this about 20 minutes ago and I can already barely remember what happened in it.
