  1. Well I won The Other Woman bonus (predicted 14.385, actual is 14.407). Spaghetti was insanely close with his 14.375 prediction
  2. I'd expect one or two August 29 releases to get pushed back.
  3. So someone predicted that Sin City 2 is gonna make $103m in eleven days.
  4. Transformers 4, if I'm not mistaken, is the first film shot (though not fully) on such a camera.
  5. I'd also bet on Winter Sleep at this point. It's in the best position to take it providing it's good enough. Godard seems too uncompromising these days, he's clearly doing his own thing and not giving a fuck about awards, so unless he puts out a late-career masterpiece I don't see it. I could see Best Director or Grand Prix, but not the big one. I could also see Mr. Turner or even Foxcatcher winning, they'll also probably be neck-and-neck for Best Actor. (Hopefully there isn't a tie, I can't fucking stand those).
  6. Star Wars will be shot on 35mm, not IMAX film.
  7. Trying not to get too cocky, but I'm looking forward to some of dem points after those estimates.
  8. Just watched the third episode of this season and it was stunning. A whole new level for this show, I mean it was as hilarious as ever, but it also managed to be genuinely dramatic, nuanced, sharp as fuck and amazingly cringe-worthy all within a space of 27 minutes. Emmys to everyone.
  9. Makes me remember how I watched Pirates 3's trailer about 50 times. Good times, even if the movie ended up a total disappointment.
  10. "That dog is an asshole!" - Joe
  11. Interstellar, Apes, Hobbit, Godzilla, and either Jupiter or Exodus.
  12. Well I just realized I already failed the horror/thriller question. I'm pretty sure Deliver Us From Evil will do $30m for the 5-day, but I was thinking of 3-day when I answered NO. Oh well.

  15. The Desolation of Smaug. Which really should be every movie's subtitle.
  16. I'm very much looking forward to binge-watching most of Mike Leigh's filmography sometime later this year.
  17. As usual, it looks like I'll be done about 2 minutes before the deadline.
  18. The sequel, The Look of Silence, will be finished in a few weeks and should be ready for fall festivals: http://thedissolve.com/news/2110-joshua-oppenheimers-the-act-of-killing-sequel-is-a/
  19. Fight Club, The Matrix, Election, Bringing Out the Dead, Beau Travail, Pola X are six of my all-time favorites, and there was plenty more greatness in '99. Definitely one of the greatest years for cinema ever, only 2007 has come close since then.
  20. It's strange. I saw it for the first time when I was like 14 and thought it was incredible. Saw it for the second time this past January and, to my own shock, was bored out of my skull. The first 30 minutes or so were still great, but after that I quickly lost all connection with it. Just did not care... at all. I don't even know. I'll obviously see it again sometime down the line, but it's not looking good.
  21. I'm almost fascinated by your intense hatred of Punch-Drunk Love. I mean it really touched a raw nerve there. And to think that such a charming movie would ever do that...
