  1. One of the true greats. A seamless blend of a huge epic and a character study that never even comes close to being messy or boring.
  2. I like Inception a lot, but The Matrix is a landmark film. Outstanding in pretty much every way.
  3. Lowest grossing #12 movie and the first one to make less than $100m since 2005. At the same time, on top, you've got two $400m movies for the first time.
  4. Love it. Loved the game just as much as the first time. Now if only I could take my Top 12 from last year and put it together with my weekly/SOTM/preseason stuff from this year in a single summer... but, that's for the next BSG, for which I'll sure as hell be back.Huge congrats and respect to Fake for being so insanely consistent, to Baumer for the same thing and for beautifully organising and running the whole thing once again, and thanks to everyone else for some strong competition. It was terrific.
  5. Someone get Adrian Lyne out of his apparent retirement. Let him show 'em how it's done.
  6. So TA will be just over $620m with Monday numbers. I think even with a loss of theaters next weekend, additional $2.3m will be doable.
  7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUIZvAe3RBgEvery time I watch the film and that scene begins, I can't help but have a huge grin on my face. This is what unabashed epicness and pure excitement are all about.
  8. I found Batman Returns to be pretty damn beautiful. In a somewhat twisted way, of course, but still beautiful. Now AiW, that seemed like a pale imitation of what Burton's films usually look like. And at times, it looked downright ugly.
  9. I saw it twice. The first time, I understood almost nothing. The second time, everything came together and I was absolutely floored. This is a brilliant film, one of the Coens' and the last decade's best, definitely destined to be a hidden gem (even despite its Best Picture nomination). I also remember being impressed by its box-office somewhat - its widest release was 262 theaters, but it made over $9m with very strong PTA holds (could have made a few millions more if it had stuck around until Oscar nominations). Now it seems indeed not many people talk about it, but I'm sure it won't be forgotten. It's very smart, very funny, and with great performances by mostly unknown actors - we gotta be happy that it gave us Michael Stuhlbarg. In short, I love it.
  10. Apocalypse Now (my #1 contender for the best-shot film ever)All films by Terrence Malick (Days of Heaven is the most beautiful)at least three by Sergio Leone (For a Few Dollars More, Once Upon a Time in the West, Once Upon a Time in America)Lawrence of ArabiaBlade RunnerThe Lord of the Rings (primarily FOTR)Road to PerditionFive Easy PiecesThe Social Network (best digital cinematography in a film so far, in my opinion... has that steely, blue-ish, cold beauty that both perfectly fits the story and creates a great mood of its own)
  11. Pixar movies never do that well here. In fact, I can't think of an original animated film aside from Tangled that made over $20m.

  15. 8 AM. I think I'm gonna get a couple of hours of sleep. Won't survive the day otherwise, lol.
  16. Every time I think that's it for animated movies in this list, yet another one pops up.
  17. Why does it have to be 6 AM where I live, with me not having slept yet? I'd hate to wake up with the whole list revealed. Oh, and there should have been a disclaimer that nobody who hadn't seen Lawrence of Arabia was allowed to make a list. Seriously, absolutely everything about that film is Top 10 material
  18. SOTM 13: NoPremium Rush: $14.05mHit & Run: $10.45mApparition: $5.7m

  20. I saw nothing in TLJ's performance that I hadn't already seen in any other performance of his. That he won over Ralph Fiennes in Schindler's List and Di Caprio in What's Eating Gilbert Grape is a joke.
