  1. Nah, it's not just that. Movies are made to get money. While flops happen time to time, studios need profit. Just look at what happened to A24. They lost a ton of money with Beau is Afraid ( third movie directed by Ari Aster ) and now are rushing to "mainstream" flicks. They need money just like everyone. It's cool to have movies "made for prestige", but money talks.
  2. A hard fact: Other than the dedicated MCU fanbase that watches everything MCU related ( no matter how good / bad it is ), people overall don't care about The Marvels. It's just another MCU movie and it really lacks energy. Now you might ask: Why is there a strange feeling that the movie is lacking energy and attention? That's what Mr Kevin Feige and his team should figure out. So, what's the main draw for this movie? How is it relevant to the MCU narrative? Why should I care about it? Guardians 3 is/was meant to be the end of the story with the characters we got to know in the past. Even Ant-Man 3 had something like the main villain to be set up for the next Phase. Now, what do we have for Marvels? I don't think the strikes are playing a part on the lack of interest. There's something odd with the movie, the tone, the style. I think they're trying to turn Captain Marvel movie into a mix of Thor Ragnarok / Love and Thunder and Guardians all together. The tone/style is all over the place. The visuals at least look pretty, BUT this movie has nothing going for it. Now let's go to another serious / bombastic discussion: Is Brie the right actress for the role? I think she's a great actress, BUT I'm not feeling her character. It's not organic like Downey Jr for Iron Man, Evans for Captain. I feel it's forced. I feel she's acting and trying way too hard. Maybe the writing team isn't helping at all and a better director could get the best from her, but sorry folks, I don't think she's right for the role. Where's the organic connection between actor and character? I liked her in Captain Marvel 1, but I didn't like her in Endgame and I'm not interested in this sequel. I really think something happened ( behind the scenes maybe? Not sure ) and she lost her "mojo".
  3. I'm still not interested / excited to watch it, no matter how well is reviewed. In my view, something is off. This movie feels off. I'm not digging the style and the direction. It's "just there". It lacks energy and life and excitement. Who's excited to watch The Marvels? Other than the fanbase ( usually the ones who already got tickets and will watch it even if it's the worst thing ever ), I don't see people saying how excited they are to watch it. Hell, I was insanely excited to see Saw X ( loved the flick ), but I'm not feeling The Marvels. I didn't go to theaters to see Ant-Man 3? I didn't rush to the theaters to see Guardians of the Galaxy 3 ( this one I watched on discount day and it was just ok imo ). I barely have watched the MCU series. Nothing is clicking on me regarding MCU. I'm more excited to see how the Fox Universe will be integrated to the MCU. However, anything else is irrelevant.
  4. I'm sorry, but this looks a shitty movie. I liked the first one for being so cheesy and fun, but this one smells some Fant4stic crap. Brie Larson is a great actress, but she seems off in the trailer. I don't know, she doesn't feel natural. She seems to be not comfortable for some reason. In a nutshell, it doesn't feel organic. I'm not digging the direction and this style.
  5. Beau is Afraid is a weird, batshit crazy movie that had a higher budget than Saw X. Beau flopped and lose a ton of money to the studio. You need money to keep making movies.
  6. 50 million domestic can't be ruled out for Saw X, given its holds even with huge competition.
  7. Jigsaw made more than 100 million worldwide on a budget of 10 million. However, Spiral really underperformed / flopped, which is why some might have been worried about the franchise's future. However, Spiral ws released during a pandemic, so that might have damaged numbers a lot. These movies always had reasonable budgets, which is why we have 10 of them.
  8. Saw X had a 27% drop this weekend, even with Exorcist and Taylor as competition. Great domestic performance, so far. Amazing movie. I'm actually excited for the future of Saw again!
  9. Saw X had a good hold this weekend. Great movie, it deserves. I still can't believe the 10th movie of a franchise is theonly one that critics loved. That's amazing!
  10. David Gordon Green got lucky with Halloween 2018. Halloween Ends was garbage. The fact this new Exorcist movie is getting even worse reviews than Halloween Ends, speaks volumes.
  11. Whoa! Saw taking the number 1 spot is surprising. Good word of mouth quicking in? What happened to Paw Patrol that opened at 1st and dropped to 3rd?
  12. That's honestly not a bad start for Saw X. A fresh Rotten Tomatoes score, double digits opening weekend, a budget of just 13 million, the 10th movie of a horror franchise, it made twice the opening weekend of Spiral. By the way, weren't there cinemas closed due to floods or something like that? Lionsgate and the producers should be satisfied with what they got.
  13. A possible fresh tomatometer on RT ( the first for a Saw movie ) and double digits for opening weekend will probably make Lionsgate happy enough. Saw VI was good, but it paid for Saw 4/5 sins. Saw X is amazing, but it might end up paying for Saw 3D / Jigsaw / Spiral sins. A sequel needs to keep the quality in check and be as good as X.
  14. I expect double digits for Saw X for its opening weekened. It's a movie with a 13 million budget ( not high ) and it's getting good reviews. People shouldn't be in panic just because a 10th movie of a franchise doesn't make 20-30 million for opening weekend. Legs are probably gonna be better. Just relax.
  15. Saw X possibly being fresh on RT is the biggest twist of th entire franchise! XD
  16. Nah, Saw X has a reasonable budget ( 13 million, according to Variety ). Legs will matter on this one and a possible fresh review will also help in the long haul.
  17. The better than expected reviews for Saw X might improve its domestic performance, I assume.
  18. A fresh Saw movie wasn't in my bingo card...lol Why are critics enjoying a 10th movie of a franchise where even the fantastic Saw 1 was rotten? While I never cared about critics ( I'm a huge Saw fan ), I'm really curious about this.
  19. So far, 8 fresh reviews and 2 rotten on Rotten Tomatoes
  20. According to Variety, Saw X has a budget of 13 million. So, making 15/20 million for opening weekend probably will lead to the inevitable Saw XI, right?
  21. Production budget estimated in 10 million https://screenrant.com/saw-x-budget-box-office-prediction/#:~:text=Summary,with the franchise's previous films.
  22. This is the 10th movie of a franchise where all 9 previous movies were rotten. At this point, people are either in or out. These movies are as critic proof as they can be. At least, critics shouldn't matter for this franchise, BUT it's good to see people saying it returns to its roots.
  23. It seems social embargo has lifted...
  24. Well, the producers don't get the point of a movie called Expendables. I enjoyed the movie for being so dumb it's good, BUT Statham saved it from being boring. CinemaScore won't be pretty.
