  1. Not watching any more trailers or clips. I'm getting really hyped for this, and don't want to know more about it before I see it.
  2. I'd absolutely be up for a good one. Not sure if I'm going to this one, though. I may.
  3. More on the intellectual property lawsuit: considerably more detail at link: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/is-jennifer-lawrences-passengers-caught-907755?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
  4. I went into this with no expectations, not having watched any trailers or even knowing the outline of the story. I had seen the movies I actively wanted to see, and was going to see a movie. Based on things I read on this forum, I suggested this one, which was still playing two times a day at the Arclight. I'm glad I did. Great chemistry between Crowe and Gosling. The daughter was truly good, which is great because child actors can be so annoying when they are saccharine. I agree that going over the ledge and shooting the girl in the end were both great and unexpected (as was a lot of the humor.) I was thoroughly entertained, which has rarely happened this year in the theater, frankly. It wasn't a 'wonderful, OMG, must go back right now and see it again' kind of film for me, so I gave it a B. But given the scarcity of other entertaining films this year, I'll give it a B+.

  6. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/jennifer-lawrence-chris-pratts-sci-802876 I actually think this movie could really break out, but I restricted my club to > $200M DOM. I could possibly be biased, of course.
  7. Nice Guys June 29, 2016 5:10 pm 3% full Arclight Sherman Oaks Trailers Snowden The Accountant No reaction for the trailers (Snowden appealed to me) periodic laughter for the movie.
  8. The name is not Mother, it seems, so we just have the working title "Day 6". http://moviepilot.com/posts/3981571
  9. If by 'this' you mean Passengers, the link above indicates there is an intellectual property suit where a judge has issued an injunction for using certain special effects technology until the ownership of the technology has been determined. Given that no trailer, even a teaser trailer for Passengers has come out, and one of the descriptions of harm to come if the technology can't be used is regarding a film with an academy award winning actress coming out in December, and that Passengers is a sci fi movie, and given that Rothman last week said a trailer would come out 'hopefully soon but we have to finish the special effects', it seems Passengers may be caught up in this. I think this is a classic case where damage exceeds potential gain in refusing to let the film be finished and I expect it is just a matter of court hearings before they are allowed to proceed. If any remaining payments for licensing the technology are due they could always be paid into a trust account to be held and paid out to whomever wins the lawsuit. The Judge DID let films already completed go forward. However, meanwhile there is no trailer, and if it were to drag on too long, it might possibly impact opening dates. I really doubt it will drag on, though. Between distribution contracts and industry standards of needed promotion (already started) and money already sunk into the film, I am pretty sure it is just a matter of Sony making a particular case for this particular movie, to the judge. --- edit, which makes me wonder if Rothman responding to the fan email about the lack of a trailer might be in aid of demonstrating damage from lack of use of the technology and the time sensitive nature meaning they need it right now. All his attorneys would have to do is introduce the twitter stream found at #Passengers trailer https://twitter.com/search?q=passengers trailer&src=typd to highlight that a trailer should be coming out. (OK, just as I typed that and added the link Sully's trailer release hit twitter. It is about a pilot saving all passengers aboard a plane. This is somewhat, but not fully, messing up my argument.)
  10. I think that will depend on whether they are allowed to finish it and get it out on time.
  11. Well, one scene that got a lot of positive response at CinemaCon was where Yeah. I think there is a very good argument to be made for these films particularly given the money already spent and the promotion (CinemaCon etc) already done and the importance of opening as advertised. Particularly since the judge exempted completed films. These are clearly too far along to change their method of effects. But I'm surprised this hasn't been determined already.
  12. Pratt is getting $12 million, and Jen is getting $20 million against 30% of profits for Passengers. And has top billing, if the poster can be believed.
  13. Yeah, I wondered why that little film would affirmatively want to take on Passengers. How depressing. This is by far my most anticipated film this year.
  14. The trailers are not encouraging. In those specific scenes, Anna Kendrick stands out, and the others look like cardboard. I'm not an Anna Kendrick 'fan' by the way. She was a face I kinda knew, but not her name attached to that face, until reading this thread. But she looks natural and the others look ..... unnatural? I never root against any movie, and don't here, I'm just giving my opinion. I see no reason to see this, based on what they have given me so far.
  15. OK, I think Han is right and La La Land is too optimistic. I'm kinda thinking this doesn't look too likely, the way the year has gone so far. But my best guess now would be: The 10 we already have, plus: Passengers Bourne Assassins Creed Rogue One Suicide Squad Star Trek Fantastic Beasts Magnificent Seven The Secret Life of Pets Conjuring 2 Ghostbusters Trolls Tarzan Dr Strange Possible alternates Bad Moms Storks ....but I'm thinking it is going to be close.
  16. I am looking forward to this! I didn't like the second as much as the first, but I still saw it in the theater then bought the DVD, so....
  17. Typically David ORussell's movies have good reviews. In Joy, only her performance was universally praised. She is generally credited with its having a $17M OW when estimates were lower (based on reviews) and 60%ish said they came just for her. Forbes and other sites consider her to be one of the few movie stars who is actually a draw BECAUSE Joy was able to do what it did, given its critical reception. ($17M OW and > $100M worldwide.) It was DOR that reviews were hitting when they were bad (the reviews were split, excellent or really bad.) And she got an Academy Award nomination for the role. I'd say she did her part. And on XA I think she helped it, but we will never know since we don't have the movie with and without her to compare. I only know that she is the reason I saw it -- twice. And despite ITS lackluster reviews, it has made over $150M domestic and over $500M worldwide, to date. It was Fox's second biggest opening ever in China. We'll see with Passengers.
