  1. I think you are the third person on this thread who has said that. Others are sure you all are wrong though, because some magazine has a line in it about DOFP having 'previews at 10'. Whatever. If someone wants to see a preview, imho they will see a preview, at 7 or 10. I have a message in to a friend to see if she wants to go see it with me again tomorrow. I am positively hyped given the disparity between my experience and what the reviews say. I'm not saying it will be the best movie anyone ever saw, but I thought it was a lot of fun, and I really like the characters.
  2. I just saw it and I really liked it. I think the comic book movie genre is just over the heads of a sizable percentage of critics. They don't seem to get it that CBMs are SUPPOSED to be CBMs. It isn't a flaw it's a feature. I don't know what box office will be although I am still predicting around 90M OW. But I think a bunch of the reviewers were flat out wrong. Glad I didn't listen to them.
  3. The same source that says Alice has a 170M budget says XA has a 178M budget. I'm sure that budget isn't a fact but it may in fact be less than DOFP really was, since they got Jen at pre Hunger Games prices for a three picture deal, and the older, more expensive actors are mostly not in it. Anyhow, I will be seeing it soon. Meanwhile, 90Mil has always been my target for the 4 day weekend, anything more would be gravy.
  4. You seriously think Alice will beat XMen? What market is that? I disagree, btw.
  5. That is likely what it means, but fandango doesn't have all the online sales so much any more, either. I know I prefer the Arclight theaters, and they sell their own tickets on line. I'll be seeing XMEN this weekend, at least once.
  6. LOL! Well, I personally wouldn't want one. (From Alice, I suspect CW will do ok and Dory will if it catches on.)
  7. I actually believe this (not the bit about buying critics, though.) I remember Tarantino was furious at Disney for using its clout (although there it was the appropriate movie, imho as well) to get TFA into the Cinerama Dome screen when Tarantino had filmed Hateful Eight in 70 millimeter (I think it was) and wanted it himself. I don't think there is any doubt Disney has distribution clout. I tried to find XMen in IMAX this weekend and had to settle for 3D - and I don't even like 3D.
  8. They are on youtube and billboards and bus posters all over near where I live. I have seen exactly one XMen billboard. But I think XMen will be in the 90/100 range. No idea about Alice. I don't think the two are going for the same audiences.
  9. I disagree. I like Cap, but my favorite CB character is Superman. I've seen neither Man of Steel nor BvS, because Superman is supposed to be a hero, not a murderer. A 'dark' Superman is not Superman.
  10. Yeah, and I think that is starting, as in TFA, and started a while back, as in Smallville, meaning progress is slow. I strongly suspect all the leads will not be white. (Heck, wasn't Sammy Davis Jr in the original Rat Pack version?) But it seems to me that inclusiveness being the goal, going to the opposite extreme isn't helpful. Also, it seems like a lecture, which I doubt helps at the box office. ALSO, it almost implies that men and women can't be real friends, which has its own problems. Beyond that, I just personally prefer to watch a mix. It is more realistic, imho.
  11. If the articles saying Jen was going to take the "right hand woman" role corresponding to Brad Pitt were true this would not be a reboot but a spin-off, leaving the door open for combinations of joint casting going forward. Sandra is supposed to be Cloony's character's sister. But Gossip Cop said they spoke to Jen's 'people and they said she is not in any such talks. for my 2 cents, when you have that many leads, there should be both male and female main characters unless there is a specific reason not to, like the story taking place in a convent.
  12. I don't know if this is legitimate or not, but someone started an "I hear Passengers has test screened" thread on IMDB, and someone posted this; http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000005/thread/256795191?p=6
  13. LOL! Actually Forbes counted Joy opening above expectations as proof of Jen's box office draw, and Mockingjay was the least popular book in the series and the wrong one to split in two, if they had to split any. But whatever. When Passengers starts having clubs here, I'll take my stance on it. The buzz around it is already unusually good, and I think it will do great. I think Assassins Creed will be a very different kind of movie, and I personally expect to see both.
  14. I remember the CinemaCon comments calling it a cross between Harry Potter and X-Men. The people who saw the footage really seemed to like it, though.
  15. Well, I guess we'll find out, won't we? And I say that as an admirer of Jennifer Lawrence who is pretty confident about this movie. I don't think it will be 'bullet proof', but if it is good, I think critics will be predisposed to like it, because it is original, and because Jen is well thought of, the director has been nominated by the Academy, and as far as I know, there is no grudge out there against Pratt. Both of them are popular, and I do agree that a movie pulling the public to original material with star power will be a plus for the critics. Critics are already anticipating it positively. If it sucks, they won't defend it, but I think they don't want it to suck. And from all accounts to date, it is really good.
  16. This may be fan generated, but it drew a response from the director on twitter:
  17. A Beautiful Planet is about to come out. Will it take over those theaters? http://variety.com/2016/film/reviews/a-beautiful-planet-film-review-1201762335/
  18. I don't know what the reviews will be like. All we have right now is the reactions to 3-4 minutes of footage from those who saw it at CinemaCon. Not every good trailer has a good movie behind it. However, Sony is apparently treating this as their top movie even though Ghostbusters had a bigger budget and has name recognition. Those who saw it used words like "Kubrickian" and compared it to Gravity, Interstellar and the Martian. Obviously, the return on those movies didn't rival Titanic, but from the clip I think it is supposed to have an "event feel". http://www.telegraph.co.uk/film/passengers/jennifer-lawrence-chris-pratt-cinemacon-footage/ I am trying to not get my hopes up too much because the reviews are SO good, they will be hard to live up to.
