  1. There should be enough people who are seeing End Game that can afford to see Shazam a couple weeks prior. Even go on a Tuesday.
  2. I can believe it needed $750M to break even. Shit, I remember the days when films needed a billion to "break even"
  3. As someone who thought the teasers were god awful, this trailer sold me. It looks at least like a lot of fun and I love the colors and the production design. Aladdin is one of my very favorites growing up and I love Will Smith so I wanted it to be good.. I was scared for a minute there.
  4. Yeah, Iron Man did very well. Hulk, Cap and Thor did decent but not great. Iron Man had a fantastic lead with Downey Jr. Shazam! has seemingly a very entertaining lead with this.. I don't see it doing over $300M but it should do well enough for a sequel.
  5. Well Aquaman made some references to past events and it's expected that Suicide Squad 2 will probably do the same.. it's no different than comics where they allude to past events but they don't always tie in to something down the road.
  6. They might come back to it but they are more concerned about getting Shazam going, continuing Aquaman, continuing Wonder Woman, doing Harley Quinn movies and starting a new Batman franchise with Matt Reeves (who did the Planet of the Apes trilogy). These are the projects for the next 2-3 years. I should also note the movie 'Joker' starring Joaquin Phoenix is said to be an 'Elseworlds' movie. This is another thing WB is doing, they are doing projects that are set in an alternative universe kinda like the comics, the execs said that if they think a project is a good idea they'll do it and it can standalone. One more thing. There's a Flash movie that is in development but a ways away. It could wind up tying the universe together if they do a Paradox type story line out of it but that wouldn't be until a few years down the road.
  7. After Justice League.. they decided that the DCEU can still be connected but it will be loosely connected, as in the directors are making their own movies and they aren't expected to further progress some overarching story arc that will lead to a team up. There won't be a team up for a long time. They are just going to do different solo franchises and sometimes make connections/possible cameos.
  8. I don't know about Canada but most kids do not have that Monday off from school. Allow me to expand on this. It's not a Federal holiday. Some kids have the day off but it's a very small percentage. It's not widely observed at all.
  9. I thought Sunday would be around 40.8 but I think this is headed for well over $400M domestic. It had about the same opening weekend as Hunger Games and while it may lose a little on the back end, Captain Marvel will make up that ground with a bigger second weekend I feel. I don't see this dropping 61% like Hunger Games did.
  10. It's not bad but it's worse than many of us were expecting. I'm most interested in this upcoming weekend. There is nothing in its way. It should have a nice soft drop.
  11. This was a lead in to End Game. Or marketed as such. Ant-Man was viewed by most as a fun time but non-essential. Being the first female led MCU movie helps but it's more the power of Infinity War and what's next for End Game. If CM is given Ant-Man's slot it would still do very well but not this kind of OW.
  12. Get Out is one of the best movies of the decade. I expect Us to live up to the hype.
  13. I didn't see Home Alone and Big and these other comparisons thrown around for any other comic movies. Tells me that Shazam is truly something different... of course there will be stans who say any DC film that is good must have ripped off another entity but that's simply ridiculous.
  14. I think we are witnessing the power of End Game. Captain Marvel is getting that heavy lead in bump the same way Iron Man 3 had the heavy after bump off the first Avengers. CM couldn't have been placed in a better position.
  15. No such thing as "real critics" anymore. We can point to "Top Critics" on RT I suppose and you'll find all the well know publications etc. but do most people pay attention to it? Do most people pay attention to anything other than the overall RT score? Hell, do most people even pay attention to RT? I'd say enough people do pay attention to RT overall to a point where studios feel it's useful to use in marketing but I don't know. If we agree that it's at least somewhat important it still doesn't matter how the score about.. Shazam could do 83% on RT and I believe most people won't investigate to see where and how the number came about..
  16. nah it was in the Shazam thread. All I want to know is why WB/DC doesn't seem to be promoting it that much... I haven't seen many tie ins and TV spots and the movie is coming out soon. With Aquaman they were all over the place, ads all over the place.. commercials everywhere. etc.
  17. Have the mods around here lost their mind or what? I just made a post saying I've seen a ton of tie ins from Captain Marvel, along with TV spots etc.. it looks like Disney went into overdrive on the promotion. I said in comparison it seems like WB/DC hasn't gone into promotion to that level for Shazam, I haven't seen much promotion at all for a movie that comes out so soon.. I said in that post that my comparison is not met to provoke, it's a simple comparison because of how both films come out around the same time. Some mod deleted my post for no reason. I want both movies to do well, fuck.. I like DC movies.. I hate a lot of MCU movies, but I also love a lot of MCU movies. We can't make a simple fucking comparison? What the hell is wrong with y'all? Jesus christ.
  18. First of all I like Black Panther it's one of my favorite movies of 2018 so how am I a hater? This is why I try to steer clear of you Disney stans on here. This is what it means: Usually when a film that has a good chance at Best Picture the director is also nominated because the consensus is usually that the film was great in part because of the director. This isn't always the case. It's usually the case. Ben Affleck being snubbed a few years back was a big discussion because most people felt it was ridiculous how Argo could be Best Pic and he not nominated since it wasn't just the acting that carried the film.
