I get it; For animated movies, it never feels like he's cast because he was the best option, but because "Oh boy wouldn't it be ironic if we got Keanu Reeves? Wouldn't that be funny? Wouldn't that be amusing to people online and maybe they would see this movie?" They could have cast anyone to be Shadow if they were competent and still gotten that money. I hope i'm proven wrong and this is actually an interesting animated-ish performance from him.

Truthfully I think this is meme casting as well but if you can't meme cast in a Sonic movie of all things, what can you do?

I wonder if they'll have another teaser tomorrow with a bit more Shadow. We can say it's too early, and hell maybe it is, but we thought they'd wait until June to announce Shadow's voice and here we are.

Hm, okay. I was still hoping for Robert Pattinson or Hayden Christensen but that's nice too.

The more I think about this and read other people's thoughts on it (aka: they saw the symbolism and weren't completely tired out by the rapid pacing in the beginning), the more I appreciate how it weaves Indian mythology together and has parallels in the modern day. Really just says I should watch it again.

....I don't think I've ever seen a tv spot for MM but I'm not sure where it'd even play. To be fair, it's not aimed at me, person on a movie forum who is already a fan.

I'd be surprised if the demo for 'There's a Civil War in America in the modern day' wasn't mostly male and white.

The biggest revelation came from the Box Office Podcast coverage; They mentioned something in the Lionsgate panel/episode getting RPX and apparently The Hurricane Heist had an RPX release? Amazing.

Thought Chazelle was directing G.I Joe / Transformers and thought "Bit of a comedown."

They'll announce the cast for a movie coming out October 2025 but not one coming out December 2024. lol

I was using the general Disney thread. I'm not familiar with X-Men all that much but I watch each week; I kind of wish these were a touch longer but it's only a week to wait I have Happy Nation stuck in my head now.

From what I hear, man, we have to wait 8 months for this? And probably 6 for a trailer? It really does sound fun.

Didn't see the first one but was quite taken by this trailer.

So I finally saw this. I have never felt the mantra of "hire actual voice actors" more strongly than I did listening to this. I don't think Ke Huy and Viola are bad actors, but they are not voice actors and it really stands out. I'm torn between calling Akwafina one, just because you're in x amt of animated movies doesn't mean you've got the training, and it sure doesn't seem like she's had training. It feels like they really lost what made these movies special. These weren't the pinnacle of "Eastern Philosophy" movies, but it's like the jokes here are a little too contemporary. I felt that way with the fight scenes too, it felt like there was a lot less martial arts moves and styles and more slapstick fighting. The clearest example I can make are the credits in 1 and the credits here; 1 uses at least the same artstyle that ties into the movie at various points, flat, with a cover of "Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting" (which yeah, not a Chinese song in the least). Here it's just a clipshow of the same CGI we've been seeing for the past hour with a rock cover of a pop song from the West. The first 20 minutes or so were kind of odd, so many of the jokes were callbacks to 3 minutes ago. It got a few loud laughs out of me. It looks nice, that's kind of the nicest thing I can say - oh, and I think I'll rewatch the first one instead.

Campea mentioned it. Like I said, he's the only one who mentioned it (but I do not hang around Sonic movie rumor sites except Twitter and here, maybe someone else did), but he's been right sometimes in the past, so grain of salt.

I heard a rumor of who might voice Shadow and they might be announced on Thursday. I won't say the source is questionable because they have been right, but they're the only one saying it, buuuut it would kind of tie in with some re releases happening. We shall see! I know that's a large cocktease about information but I want to wait and see if they're right. Also apparently Universal has two panels! How about that.

I know he's not a popular pundit around here (or anywhere really), but I really liked John Campea's coverage of it last year, I don't know if he's going back this year. Also Box Office, they were fun. Does anyone report on the panels that aren't studio based, like the actual technologies and ideas being brought to the theaters? Those always seem so cool.

Monkey Man 7 People Abigail I think there was a commercial for Deadpool and Wolverine, but not a trailer proper. Longlegs (ok me and someone else chuckled a bit at it) Abigail Ungentlemanly Warfare The Fall Guy The Watchers A few laughs, thought one of the couples was walking out but they did come back. Some guy wanted to add commentary for the first 15 minutes but got the picture after several shushes.

What train did they have to catch for the first 25 minutes of this movie. That really felt rushed, and I was hoping the cameraperson would take 2 steps back from everyone's face. Maybe that's a narrative decision, given what happens later, but when you get to the second (?) fight scene, it does slow down to a reasonable pace and is fairly enjoyable though it does get a little too slow in the third act before finally settling on a decent pace. The music choices are fantastic, that synth remix of Somebody to Love is great, honestly every fight scene after the very first is entertaining and surprising, it looks stylish, it's a good start with major room for improvement.
