Someone I know at my theatre said walkups have been incredible for this today and will likely be even moreso tomorrow. I'm seeing it tomorrow afternoon.
$800K previews, 2,375 theatres. Not sure what to use as a comp. Selma had $400K previews and an $11.3M wide OW (28.3x multi). It won't have that strong a multi though. I honestly don't know.... maybe this will surprise.
I honestly can't believe a movie like this is out-opening a movie like Underwater. I mean, neither are that great, but clearly Like a Boss is terrible. At least UW has a concept. I don't know, just me.
In fairness, it's also the last Kingsman release date as well, so there's a precedent there. Still wish it was staying on Presidents' Day weekend though.
Yeah, I've read several different opinions about the "gimmick". Really anxious to see it for myself so I can see what everyone is talking about and decide what I think of it. In a nutshell it clearly really works for some and doesnt work for others.
This will be opening in a very healthy 3,700 theatres next weekend. If it wasn't already obvious this would out-open Dolittle, the theatre count definitely puts a stamp on it. It'll be within a few hundred theatres at most of the latter's count.
Sony is preparing for a strong opening, methinks.
Oh, and another little bit of marketing:
It seems like this same thing happened with Matthew McConaughey. Spend the first phase of your career being a pretty boy and doing sappy romantic comedies. Then, some time later, he emerges as a talented actor you can take seriously and whose performances are very entertaining. I look forward to seeing what Hugh Grant has got going on in the near future.
Haha! Oh dear...
Well with Run I don't blame you. It's still on the schedule for whatever reason but there's been no news or marketing or anything for it and it's still apparently in post.
Out of reactions, but thank you for the response. Indeed, we'll see. Really rooting for over $40M though. It would make for one of the top January openings (I count wide expansions as "openings").
I actually liked Doctor Strange so I'm not overjoyed like most are in this thread. That being said, I'm not unhappy either. I guess I just have so much faith in Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios that I'm comfortable with whatever they do and know it's for the best.
What is a shame is I was looking forward to the alleged horror element of this movie. Hope we don't lose that.

Everything is going right for this film.
He's done a couple kiddish featurettes. That's about it. There's absolutely nothing happening with this film, it feels like. It's a big budget tentpole that's going to come and go the same as a small budget January throw-away movie would.
Very odd dynamics with this film, that's 'for sure.
Tis par for the course on the internet man. I wouldn't sweat it. I'm learning to just laugh it off because situations like yours actually are funny when you think about it.
