  1. I think in a giant action-comedy he can be an interesting pick for a studio, just has to be him playing pretty much exactly Thor in movies that target exactly the same audience for it to work. A comedy like MIB seem perfect for him. Well that a bit trivial what I am saying, a studio (and their marketing team with focus group research) are obviously thinking the same.
  2. After Ghostbuster (he did quite well in it I think), Hemsworth the go to guy for Sony reboot. Giant Action/really Comedy heavy is probably is place to be.
  3. Maybe not (seem to have really wanted it and had clear intention) but maybe Francis Lawrence will have some regret to not have made the movie more about that, like the books, in 2013/14/15 it was maybe something of interest for a studio, but the timing would have been nice. You mean 2015-2018 I imagine ?, she still made 1.5b at the box office in 2014 with movies with a 90% and 66% RT scores. True it was probably an unsustainable level: https://web.archive.org/web/20160204123124/http://theharrispoll.com/health-and-life/Tom-Hanks-Favorite-Movie-Star.html
  4. And I am not sure if my logic make sense or my brain is making some weird shortcut, but from 3d conversion, to 3d TV system sold because of it, people upgrading to bluray, etc... Avatar could be the movie that created the most pollution of all time.
  5. One other element that was I am not sure not talked this time, usually after those events gun maker/seller stock get a bump, people buying fearing legislation while the market are not fearing them. This time the little bump was very short lived and they are going down since, market is fearing consequence and does not have that if nothing was done before, nothing will now.
  6. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_watched_television_broadcasts_in_the_United_States#2017 More than a world series game and some NFL playoff games, I imagine because there is a high proportion of frequent movie goer watching, make the effect a bit bigger.
  7. I could look I imagine but was Peter Jackson middle earth process something similar ? Boyen wrote on all of them.
  8. Outside the generic what is really popular and loved will often find resistance (the first Star Wars got a lot of hate for similar reason), some that was generated in particular for Avatar: 3D I think, being such a massive success made it almost certain that a vague of 3D movie will be made, maybe even this time a permanent shift toward that format, for people disliking (or physically uncomfortable with it) some of that hate toward the format got transferred toward the movie that raised is popularity. Some rooted for the humans I would guess and did find both the never showing earth suffering of climate change / spirit-religion being real as an easy way out and made the movie a bit of a irritating watch. Attached to the root for the humans, the theme of the movie are quite strong and quite the attack in some ways on politics many support (and/or are beneficiary off), can make it an hard watch. For this one, I would think how close as a reference to trope/movies they knew, Star Wars was heavily influenced by more obscure material to audience than Dance With the Wolves narrative and there is a group of people up there that like to think they watch movies for the story and that all that matter (even when they watch 200m movies.... they like to think it is all about the story), even if some of them are Big Lebowski fans and would have an hard time telling you what is the story in that movie.
  9. Rebecca was the lead of a spy movie just a couple of year's ago: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Despite_the_Falling_Snow_(film) Kind of nice, wishing for something and being able to watch it right away because it already exist.
  10. Yes but even if there would be 50 person feeling like her (prefer waiting to think about it before talking negatively about the movie, being sure about it because of some felt pressure to champion the movie), it is not a conspiracy at all, it is just a very natural and simple human reaction that require no collusion or planning by anyone.
  11. Fell like a lot happened since those movie released and now it is true, feel a bit to late to even expend those movie outside the winner. Last year awards were 2/26, year before 2/28 so not that much later this year. Trump pace news cycle, TimeUp/metoo making the award season not that "fun", January big story Greatest Showman/Jumanji not being oscar movies and the 2 big nominee being early release (Get out is one year old now). Last year oscar movies in 2017 had made between jan 1 and the Oscar Hidden Figures: 150m La la land: 109m Lion: 37m Fences: 30m Moonlight: 9.7m Jackie: 7.2 343m this year Post: 77m Shape of Water: 40m Darkest Hour: 36.4 3B: 26m Tonya: 25m Phantom: 18m call me by your name: 11m 233.4m
  12. To be fair here too, 140char tweet reaction has little (if anything to do) with criticism, arguably they are the dead of criticism not holding on them to take the time to write a longer, more thought... well do an actual critic. Specially when talking about premiere party... Once you commit publicly to an idea you add a cost to change it and it remove one possible advantage of the embargo, not being influenced as much by the zeitgeist when making your idea/writing your review.
  13. I think I maybe watch the commentary or some making off for that movie and it got some rework, including in post, the movie was shot with a mom for example that was cut from the movei during the post-production, making the death mom narrative not fully well played and other change. You could be right.
  14. Is it low ? Coco:A third of those who took in Coco attended with an adult family member, while 21% of all ticket buyers took a child family member. Daddy Home 2 during the holidays: Exit polls showed a growth in families attending, moving from 18% to 35% Guardian of the Galaxy 2: 19% (really strong for the SH genre, because of baby groot, racoon, etc...) How much are they usually doing ? I have and hard time finding much data.
  15. http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/envelope/cotown/la-et-ct-box-office-memorial-day-weekend-tomorrowland-pitch-perfect-2-mad-max-poltergeist-avengers-20150525-story.html As expected, families flocked to the film, making up about 35% of moviegoers. Surveys show no skewing along gender lines. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/box-office-tomorrowland-faces-bleak-797841 Disney distribution chief Dave Hollis said that while the opening was disappointing, he believes Tomorrowland will begin to galvanize the family audience, noting that it's the only PG title until next month. Disney made family movie only for a good while now (distributed some non family movie by the end of some deal like Light Between Oceans/Bridge of Spies) but a non family Disney movie ? None since The Finest Hours in 2016 maybe ? That their very business model, to the point they used different brand if they ever released non family movie.
  16. A bit of an hard concept to sell I imagine, but they still showed more than for the very well reviewed Pete Dragon, BFG, Kubos. Boss Baby, Home, made way more than the Paddington, would be curious for the correlation between reviews and opening weekend box office for the genre. It could be mostly true that both young kids and the grand parents buyer are not the rotten tomatoes audience, Minions went above the billion after all.
  17. Hum would it be Apes, Alien, X-Mens ? I imagine X-Men.... Depend if you split the MCU or not I imagine because disney is stacked MCU (I guess Iron Man, Captain, Guardian, Thor, Black Panther, etc... are they own franchise Star wars Pirates Indiana Jones Toy Story Incredible Frozen Nemo is over I guess.
  18. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_fiction_authors She sold between 2 to 4 billion books, that over 50% of the audience being over 50 for Murder, imagine a lot of them were Christie fans and had read it at least not many if any was more read that her (maybe Shakespeare, Rowling, King or some author older than copyright but none is a certain pick). That said Poirot-Christie name in itself probably work, maybe you need to market it a bit more directly has a Poirot than just using the title.
  19. Looking at her book sales I was suprised I didn't knew her biggest success book of all time, too finally understand I knew it under an other name.... rest of the world did.
  20. The bolded one must be the winner here (considering no Marvel Superhero got more movies than Thor, all entries got giants budget and release..... or do you even start that one, need a lot of creativity)
  21. Not sure how anyone achieve to care about who is acting (over 300 wide release a year, actor in like 1 movie from time to time....), I imagine people are joking here... (probably because it is hard to be bothered by people speaking in my second language) or just not getting Americans celebrities obsessiveness things. The world were you do not click on their video and not watch their movies is almost 100% the same than the world in which they do not exist.
  22. Even adjusted, only below Awaken/Avatar biggest 3rd weekend ever....
