  1. How does a accounting software would create an interesting box office estimate in France, USA, South Korea from an movie high concept + main crew + cast (+release date, +genre, +mpaa rating) ? That seem quite specific.
  2. I have not read a lot of the Doyle, but the start of the Cumberbatch Holmes bbc series is almost a line by line copy of the first book right ? Just changing a watch by a cellphone, the type of drugs and so on (the Afghanistan war could stay at the same place)
  3. He just did Ford V Ferrari after an Adam McKay The Big Short comedy and will probably do next an other David O Russel comedy movie.
  4. There is part of it that is probably not too hard to be semi descent, a lot of it would probably look to the study result exec got handed to them from the past, stuff like scoring actors by quadrant by markets, list of closest recent movie comparable performance by market, I doubt it is only that. It could quite more complex than that in how the AI judge and try to predict interest (could even create account, test concept and look at reaction to them).
  5. Depending on what part you are talking about, I suspect it will, what people with microphone consider ok to sacrifice emission for tend to stay ok in polite society way longer, i.e. having an Hummer being considered way worse then going to Europe and rules about it being enforced sooner. Look at wearing fur vs wearing leather in our society, smartphone, video games creation, online server and film making have a good chance to go really low on the list of targets by the eco-fascist, specially if google-Facebook stay strong at controlling what is talked about.
  6. Why (except if you have nothing behind it) never simply say what you want to say. Why do you think China ban it (if it is not like they did for Once Upon a time in Hollywood, to violent and so on and the studio not letting them editing it down) ?
  7. Considering how much she travel I think there is still a good window of pundit deciding that this pollution is ok and not that one, Netflix, going to europe with your kids to see museum, going to the movie theater will be some of the last target. I am really unsure what is the relevance of some of those, like outsourced VFX, VFX will be more ecological in country with hydro electricity than the USA I would imagine, abroad shoot often use local crew. Local vs abroad for ecological reason is often a total fallacy, shipping usually is a minuscule amount of a product total footprint and easily more than made for if it is made in a more efficient location, when talking the shipping of movie images it must be virtually irrelevant.
  8. I imagine you are typing from a phone, but still that a 12s search: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_books come-on. Dune is a couple of tier below LOTR obviously, has LOTR is maybe the biggest book ever after the bible and such. The Lord of the Rings J. R. R. Tolkien English 1954 150 million[18][9][19] fantasy The Hobbit J. R. R. Tolkien English 1937 100 million[26] fantasy Fear of Flying Erica Jong English 1973 20 million[110] Dune Frank Herbert English 1965 20 million[111] Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Roald Dahl English 1964 20 million[112] The Naked Ape Desmond Morris English 1968 20 million[113]
  9. adding the previous since Jaws ( I imagine before Jaws it was not yet tracked that well): 5/29/83 Return of the Jedi Fox $23,019,618 9.1% 1,002 $22,973 $252,583,617* 6/6/82 Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan Par. $14,347,221 18.2% 1,621 $8,850 $78,912,963 6/21/81 Superman II WB $14,100,523 13.0% 1,397 $10,093 $108,185,706 12/9/79 Star Trek: The Motion Picture Par. $11,926,421 14.5% 857 $13,916 $82,258,456 12/31/78 Superman (3rd weekend) WB $10,363,384 7.7% 817 $12,684 $134,218,018* 12/24/78 Every Which Way But Loose WB $10,272,294 12.1% 1,275 $8,056 $85,196,485 7/23/78 Star Wars (re-issue) Fox $10,166,336 3.3% 1,750 $5,809 $307,263,857* 6/18/78 Jaws 2 Uni. $9,866,023 12.7% 640 $15,415 $77,737,272* 8/7/77 Star Wars (11th weekend) Fox $7,195,573 2.3% 1,044 $6,892 $307,263,857* 6/22/75 Jaws Uni. $7,061,513 2.7% 409 $17,265 $260,000,000 Nothing more than 2 year's there, without being locked obviously the change for EndGame to stay there over 6 year's is really high.
  10. Could it have a good change of becoming the longest OW title holder ? (because now that Lion King got released, if it survive Avatar 2 it could stay there until a new Avengers team get build and 2-3 avengers movie get made and the concluding one and even that....), there is a limit on how many days they can put in OW. I cannot find the timeline of the opening weekend record holder but from memory it tended to change quite fast when a new ceiling got broken, I guess that list was on the old Box office mojo.
  11. It really does sound dangerous, specially has you can more easily program what you watch just on pre-made prejudice you have and get in a tight silo. But I wonder how much it is getting like that actually in reality, versus what pundit/comment section make it sound, people went to see those Marvel movies in mass, people went to see American Sniper in mass. Movies like that fails all the time, probably more often than not (under 80% on RT, 0 star powers, not an horror or franchise movie). In the last 10 year's selling a movie that do not look like an happy ride during the holiday season isn't easy, even Fincher Girl with a Dragoon tattoo didn't manage to do it. We kind of overbought the star power is dead because of how unreliable it is, but put Gone Girl level of cast in this and Gone Girl critical reception and I am not sure we would have the this movie is failing because of political division talk right now. Or it could have got worst and worst in the last 5 year's and being the case.
  12. My cineplex experience is one that is extremelly easy to make better and hard to imagine what could get worst.
  13. Not sure why they would stop if it work, but 88% on RT verified audience score with and over 4.2/5 average score AUDIENCE SCORE88% Verified All Audience Average Rating: 4.29 Total Count: 334 A bit early obviously, but isn't that quite good ?
  14. When talking about a movie production budget it does include all the post production and VFX usually, and the budget allocated for reshoot that they often have (some director like Nolan/Aronofsky achieve to get more money for their movie principal photography by now having that window). It would be extremely shocking for BoP to go under 250M WW
  15. Seem almost impossible for Bird of Pray to flop. Studio movies wise, Dolittle, Underwater, Dune, BadBoy, Godzilla vs Kong, The New Mutant (if it ever get a release), Artemis Fowl, The Last Duel, Deep Water, well most release seem more likely to flop than an popular already established Super Hero entry.
  16. It is at best a home video draw I would agree, there is a long list of quite the talked about disaster like Gigli that didn't brought much curious audience.
  17. Search trump is not the cause just the consequence or other sentence of the sorts on google. https://www.thenation.com/article/trump-is-not-the-problem/ https://billmoyers.com/story/trump-consequence-trump-era/ https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/dec/08/donald-trump-citizens-united-anti-democracy-decade https://www.marketwatch.com/story/whats-driving-populism-its-both-economic-insecurity-and-the-culture-wars-2019-07-10 Could be a bias from my media consumption, but Trump being the symptom of something bigger, the natural conclusion and a reason why similar movement are getting quite the traction everywhere is something I did hear a lot, arguably more than the other possibility that he is a special all-time talent. I would say looking at how copycats completely failed at the Canadian federal level that there is a bit of both, Canada didn't have the same situation for them to work with, but the copycats were not even close to Trump abilities.
  18. Do you know how extremely mainstream that talking point is in the North America Media ?
  19. That sound like a gross exageration, both The Filmspotting guys (one of the biggest movie podcast on Itunes) gave it a bad reviews, no one ever suggested they were sexist. There were some : If you didn't like the 2016 film in a way that felt different than how people usually do not like movies, this is true too.
  20. If you open a bit before, you have pre-sales for both the first weekend and for more holidays date at the same time in the pre-sales too no ?
  21. Foreign language and foreign film are quite a bit different in their chance to win BP, but I imagine you meant a non English one anyway. Not sure for the future, AMPAS membership is getting more and more international and Netflix such an award force that it could happen.
  22. I imagine that with the transaction there were maybe no sequel plan but potentially Dark Phoenix, Terminator, Lego movie 2, Godzilla, etc....
  23. Jumanji 2 was so leggy that it is very hard to judge this one opening weekend, i.e. it could beat the first OW by a big amount and still drop by more than 35% easily. At the end it is far from a AAA franchise entry, neither in budget or franchise powers, the numbers need to be taken into context, a 500-600M (a China less 500-600M) would still be excellent for this and still greenlight a sequel.
